"Former Clemson standout" WHO COULD IT BE?!

7

Jan 18, 2023, 3:39 PM

MAc Lain also said DJ would make Trevor look "boring by comparison." ?

Still, I wish their show had "premium" production; it's kinda a shame both of them are trying so hard but can't get a decent microphone, camera, lighting or production help from the A/V at Clemson outright, let alone literally ESPN (I tried to help Mac get better gear but he vamped).

The ACC just can't get it together to compete with other leagues with TV or even a nationally-broadcast radio show (er, podcast) like this one & it's endlessly frustrating. "Best is the standard" until you leave Clemson, perhaps, I don't know, just frustrating.

Debbie?

My guy, I don't insult people, I don't even think this was a downer outright----what's wrong with WANTING "best is the standard" to be something that we can show off on a national show? I LOVED Kelly on WCCP and her work has inescapably gotten worse since then. I want the best for them outright. C'mon fam.

To be fair, Mac Lain was around before "Best is the standard" became a thing.

He always kinda mails it in, on his own show & on the ACC Network. It's disappointing I guess is all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mails it in? Never watched his podcast, but he's pretty good

It's hard to stomach I guess

Jan 20, 2023, 10:02 AM

The podcast, which is also a nationally-broadcast radio program, is simply subpar. The content is often just super generic, but it's the quality that really bugs, especially being broadcast on radio.

I kinda get it for Eric since he was a football guy that just kinda had nowhere else to go & landed a dream gig when we got our ACC Network (so to speak), but Kelly comes from radio; the atrocious quality of the sound is one thing (and an incredibly easy & inexpensive fix), but the webcam quality & placement looking up their noses & using a "ring light" with no positioning or anything, it just doesn't make sense & it's disappointing.

I know I sound cynical or hateful, but that's not it, I just don't understand how it's been so downhill. I think what happened is they got "cushy" & got this job to work from home & they treat it the same way, but with the TREMENDOUS resources at Clemson alone for A/V (not to mention ESPN outright), I kinda can't believe THEY would let themselves release a show like this every weekday is all.

Again, I even tried to help & literally donate better gear BECAUSE I want them to succeed. It didn't work.

I've always liked Eric, and about every time I see him, he has that big O smile on his face. One thing is for sure though, he don't know a lot about what kind of Gas that you're supposed to put in the car or pickup. Mostly All but some of the high performance cars are suppose to use regular unleaded bc premium don't give them anymore power or help to get better gas mileage. If fact, premium does more harm than good to these all-aluminum engines bc, the premium gas can cause them to run a little warmer than they will with regular unleaded gas. Premium gas works better in the high compression, big horse power high performance engines than it does in the low compression engines that's in most daily drivers like the family car, go to work car, pickup, or open road traveling cars.

No one on here wants the analogy for the offense to be "daily driver."

We've seen quite enough of that.

I will be curious to see if Dabo lets Riley be in charge of the offense

or if every play call has to be approved (or changed) by Dabo.

One of my biggest disappointments with our offense over the last 5 years or so is the decreased tempo. Going fast was a major piece of our success, and the play calling by committee that seems to have become the norm makes a faster pace impossible.

I don’t know what Riley has planned, but with his track record at SMU and TCU, as well as what we are paying him, I hope Dabo will let him run the offense.

Ummm we pulled way back on the fast pace after Chad Morris left at the end of 2014. Going fast pace was a major part of our ascension as it was still relatively new. The pinnacle of our success was when we dialed it back. Stick to spreading disinformation on basketball.

Below was written by Larry Williams 1/17/23

When Dabo Swinney made the decision to replace Chad Morris by promoting Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott to co-offensive coordinators, we were a little taken aback by one of the initial changes we heard from someone close to the program.

"They're not going to have as much tempo," the person told us in December of 2014.

Under Morris, the tempo thing was used so much in both application and messaging that it was a part of Clemson's brand. And in those days, the horizontal and vertical stretching of the defense was still new and funky.

It gave the Tigers something different that defenses did not often see. And it worked marvelously in putting Clemson back on the college football map.

But with Morris having departed to SMU after four seasons, and with Swinney trying to turn really good into great, he made a calculated shift in offensive philosophy even if the basic structure of the offense remained largely the same.

There's dialing it back, and then there's d...i...a...l...i...n...g it back where plays are taking way too long in every aspect. I can't see Riley being happy if he doesn't have control as the OC.

I'm sure it will be Riley's show to run on offense, but it is still part of a larger whole, so tempo and types of plays for different moments and circumstances in the game would still fall under the purview of the sole person responsible ultimately for both the whole and its parts - Coach Swinney.

If you noticed also, with a different player under center our last few games, we were able to substantially pick up the pace on offense with less processing delays going on.

I'm excited for an accomplished coach like Riely to bring in a fresh approach here. I would imagine the playmakers on that side of the ball are pretty stoked about it. Hopefully not too much of a learning curve on the communication side.

Go Tigers.

JK you know I love u... but your dates and facts are off....

Jan 18, 2023, 6:10 PM [ in reply to I will be curious to see if Dabo lets Riley be in charge of the offense ]

When Morris left, we dialed it back pretty quickly. So it hasn't just been the last 5 years.... also, many up tempo teams at that time have dialed it back as well. Tennessee was an exception this year, and ran more plays per game than anyone else. But it wasn't with a "power air raid" system. it was a balanced attack at a super fast pace, enabled by planned calls for each series. It worked to a point... TCU wasn't quite as fast at UT. I suspect Dabo WILL give him the keys, but I doubt we'll ever see Clemson as fast as we were under The Chad. I tihk we had over 9 games with over 90 plays with Chad...That's pretty dang fast ;)

As fast as tennersee ran up and down the field, one might say our putting up 101 plays is just above the high speed threshold. Look at the time of possession stats, and you will see all you need to know.

Good point. I believe Dabo will let Riley run with the play calling. Morris had the reins, it was only after he started promoting within that he starting chiming in.

Fairly confident that Dabo will only provide Street/Dabo playbook as a foundational frame of reference before Riley puts it in the deep freeze ...

It was with Mac Lain and Joe Gore on the right side that Andre Ellington started showing those take it to the house bursts on runs that we became used to seeing continuing with Gallman and Etienne.
