Are you a TIGER FAN

Sep 5, 2021, 6:00 PM

or just a band wagon fan of winning?

Any loss cuts a real fan deeply. We bleed orange.

My first Tiger game was in 1958 with my mill hill Chester Scout Troop 73 ( I made Eagle a few years later). The game was the most exciting thing I had ever seen. I have been a solid Tiger fan since then. Other teams of my youth (Yankees, Colts) have faded, but my Tiger love grows every year.

In my short time as a fan we have gone (I proudly say "we") 480-241. Due to beer that may be a few games off, but close enough for today. I have seen 241 losses and every one cut me (and the teams) deeply.

That includes years where we went 15-0 but also a couple years where we won just 3 games. Many years we were under .500.

I know Dabo has spoiled younger fans, but that don't mean they aint solid fans, just that they aint yet been tested.

Yesterday was a fan test. Are you all in, or just on the band wagon? Don't be afraid to step up here on Tnet forum and be counted. Who is proud to be a Tiger fan?
Some will be silent because the best our team could do did not meet their standard, or maybe bail to a new team. The silver lining of those 3 win years was culling the coot type fans.

Tiger future is bright.

Those are my feelings exactly, and I become a Tiger fan in 1962. That loss cut deep, not near as deep as some in the past. Neither offense scored a TD, and that was bc both teams faced the best D than they'll face the rest of the season, and maybe their college career. No real orange bleeding fan should hang their head bc that was an over whelming defensive game, and with that being the toughest game DJ will probably have in his rookie season, we were lucky that more points wasn't scored from turn overs, but the one Int!!!

You nailed it! I grew up a Gamecock and Married into a Tiger Family. The Catch in Columbia was my conversion. Not the Catch itself but when dressed in Garnet I had To fight my way out for my Tiger wife. I knew then My team was Clemson. Never looked back and through good times and bad I love my Tigers. Yes we took a loss but we truly are in the Golden Years. Thank You for your post and Go Tigers!

Went to my first Clemson game in the fall of 1957 and haven’t regretted a moment. Lived Through Frank Howard and every coach since. Many lean years during that time and didn’t give up and I sure as he77 want because of last night. Can’t win every game regardless of what some fans think. To those bandwagon fans, go find another team as we don’t need your kind.

long before Sullivan to Beasley, 51-0, was a thing and I’ll be one if those days ever return.

The younger crowd has no clue what “bad Clemson football” looks like . . . and I hope they never do.

I’ll be a Tiger long after my ashes are scattered.

I was on the hill for Pat Sullivan's Heisman run and we were mediocre when I was at CU in the early 70's, we made enough mistakes for a whole year last night, but we still have a good chance to run the table if Tony can spice up the gameplan and our Oline comes around - that is the real "if" in my opinion.

Been to over 500 games. Have missed 8 home games since 1974. Have been to the mountain top many times thanks to Clemson football and have seen many low points and this ain’t one. I remember during a rain game against Wake Forest counting 106 people in the North upper deck.

One thing is for sure, the climb is alway more exciting. It was in the late 1970s before the ‘81 title and has been under Dabo leading up to our recent titles. Once you get to the top, as a fan, that is all that matters and once you lose that only then can you appreciate where you were.

I thought we would never regain our crown and now that we have, I’m so thankful. I enjoy it all and would not trade my team or coaches for anybody. But that’s just me and nearly 55 years of Clemson football.

I'm a Tiger Fan and 1984 grad who respects Tony Elliott as a man but is lukewarm to his coaching skill sets. I appreciate the job Coach E did calling plays for DW4 and TL16. And I also expect Coach E would be successful coaching Joe Montana, Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes.

Play 1 - off guard up the middle. Play 2 - screen or dunk pass. Play 3 - 3rd and 8. QB is in the hole. This is a description of 90% of Clemson's first series in every game of every season. It's this predictable for every opponent's D-coordinator, and yes, it gets old to watch Clemson forfeit every first series. The rest of the game calls are almost as predictable. And TL16 and DW4 overcame these play calls with best-in-the country skill sets. Respects to UGA's stout Defense, but sure I am disappointed to see Clemson waste a summer and kickoff this season with those same predictable and lame-a$$ play calls.

I've been a Tiger fan since 1977

Sep 5, 2021, 8:44 PM

When I was 9 years old. Saw the first Natty in '81 on NBC. Went to my first game in '83 and saw Clemson beat Georgia Tech 41-14. Continued to see Clemson's awesomeness through the Danny Ford years and was heartbroken when Clemson wrongfully fired him. Lived through the Hatfield and West years. Then Tommy Bowden. And had seriously doubts about a Wide Receiver coach turned HC. However I was delighted to be proven wrong when Dabo took us to elite status. I've been called coot and disloyal on this board by ignorant fans who never met me, however anyone who has ever met me knows I am a die hard Tiger. It's how people describe me first. So I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Last night was ugly from an offensive point of view. But awesome from a defensive point of view and I even thought special teams played very well. I refuse to sugarcoat the offensive performance, and thus I've been called disloyal.
We are going to lose games...but I believe what upsets me about last night was two things. 1. We were given a ridiculous amount of opportunity to win the game. 2. It was Georgia. I can't stand losing to Georgia, yet we only beaten them once in the last thirty years. So yes, this game was hard pull for me to swallow. Even though I knew going in it was a 50/50 chance for either team.

- Joe Sherman '34

I think we get caught up in our love and dedication to Clemson that we sometimes get frustrated because we expect something.

Dabo and Co. will right the ship and our OLine and DJ will get settled.

In my mind we need three things to happen:
1) Offense needs a leader to step up (maybe Lyn-J or Ross) to help DJ out mentally (football like all aspects of life is a mentally taxing game)
2) DJ needs to learn to scramble/get rid of the ball
3) Establish setup plays that play to DJ's strengths.

used to. Enjoy watching us play well, regardless of outcome. Did not see that from the offense Saturday night. Had a great time Saturday night, enjoyed a great effort from the D, and went home with lots of questions about the offense. Hope they can work out the kinks and get rolling as the year goes on!
