In 1988 perspective

Nov 30, 2022, 2:40 PM

Tigers went 10-2 with bowl win over Oklahoma.
Lost to 10th ranked florida state and un ranked nc state. Won the ACC with 6-1 record.

We played the option and Terry Allen had 1192 yards rushing. Rodney Williams was the qb and went 78/186 for 1144 yards. 41.9 percent. 5 td and 4 picks.

2022 so far 10-2
Dj is 227/365 2511 with 22 td and 7 picks
Shipley 1092 yards.

Now if tigernet was around in 1988, would Dechane Cameron or Chris Morocco be talked about more to replace Rodney? Given if you thought Rodney was a bad passer. Btw. Rodney rushed for 299 that year while DJ has 545 yards so far this year.

And don’t reply the 1988 offense and 2022 offensive schemes are way different. We all know that.

Those numbers are interesting. Let’s go win another ACC championship.

Williams ran the option.

Football was radically different in 1988. Williams had a talent. He could read a run defense after the snap and he always took one defender out of the play by keeping the ball until he was at the point of being hit.

He was the toughest quarterback I ever saw. Over and over he would get hit and over and over he made good decision.

DJ would not have been ranked in the 20 QBs coming out of college in those days. Paul Johnson would still be coaching at GT if Rodney Williams was his QB.

Amen to that. I loved Rodney. One tough cookie and one he// of a year. Darn shame playoffs didn't exist then.

I was 4 years old in 1988 so you'll have to help me out here

But did we look like straight horse manure against weak competition with a dreadful offense, a qb that obviously had no business starting and a #### poor WR unit with #### poor fundamentals due to the hiring of coaches that aren't qualified for the positions they hold while refusing to utilize all avenues of ncaa rules to build the team?

Answer that and then I can tell you how tigernet would have been.

I was 11 so I was just excited to see donnell wofford play who wore my favorite number 20. Still have the jersey I bought from knickerbockers that year. He was awesome.
