Baseball America is high on Bakich

Jun 15, 2022, 3:51 PM

We need to consider how he was advancing Maryland, and building Michigan.

and from his philosophy, it seems he builds his programs the right way. All signs point to a great fit at Clemson, but time will tell all.

I tracked his wins across his time at Maryland and Michigan

Jun 15, 2022, 3:58 PM

on a bar chart and took notice of prior records.

It was obvious that at both program he the programs were trending up in wins over the course of time.

Looking at the wins per season go up most every year, and considering his record as a recruiter (and evidently one of his assistants records as an ace recruiter) this seems like a very good hire.

It appears, on paper this will be a very big upgrade for our recruiting which has a been a weakness over the last several years IMO. I also believe development will be an upgrade.

Also, worth noting, bringing his assistant, Nick Schnabel, the 2019 college baseball national assistant of the year will be another boost to recruiting.

That said, I think the jury will be out on pitching until we see who he hires.

He recruited so much better than the rest of the Big10, that he never finished 1st in the regular season and finished 12-12 in conference this year. That top notch recruiting is worth every penny above $1 million.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

perfect example

Has Clemson ever played in a CWS finals or

Jun 15, 2022, 4:33 PM [ in reply to Re: I tracked his wins across his time at Maryland and Michigan ]

finished one game from a national championship? He also had the #1 rated team in the country in the Covid year.

I get that you'd like to see more, but the guy's resume shows progression and he was growing the once dormant Michigan program.
In addition he's extremely well respected in the business. I get he may not be your hire, but professionals are behind it. And he may be bringing one of the best pitching coaches in the business as well.

Maybe we could at least give him a chance before dumping all over him on Tigernet? No sense complaining over it at this point. It looks to be a done deal, and he will be leading the program starting tomorrow.

He was 8-7 during the Covid year of 2020. I don't think having 1 great year out of 13 should land you a college baseball contract over a million dollars.

Five regionals and two Big 10 championships.

Jun 15, 2022, 6:07 PM

Michigan hadn't been in the CWS for 35 years prior to 2019. They were dormant before he got there. Was building the program into a perennial contender.

Again, if you're not happy that's all good, but the people who are more knowledgeable seem to think he's a very good and growing coach.

No sense dogging the guy at this point. It will achieve nothing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, we shoulda kept Monte. Not only was he cheaper…

Jun 15, 2022, 6:40 PM [ in reply to Re: Has Clemson ever played in a CWS finals or ]

But he woulda kept us out of the tournament for a 3rd year in a row.

Yes Clemson has been in the CWS finals

Jun 15, 2022, 4:52 PM [ in reply to Has Clemson ever played in a CWS finals or ]

We were in the winner's bracket and ended up losing two games in a row to the coots.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope, we were in the “final four” twice….

Jun 15, 2022, 5:07 PM

Only having to have to beat the coots once to reach the final game in 02 and final series in 10. We went 0-4, some of my darkest days as a tiger. Those both hurt immensely.

ALL IN!!

deroberts you practically never have a positive post on this board and you usually post in all caps. Sit down on this one.

He posts in all caps because he's at work drafting (or better yet pretending to be). Actually he's playing in TigerChat and stealing from his employer.

Sorry I can't spend more time in here like you, deroberts. While you're stealing from someone else playing on here when you're getting paid to work, I'm working to earn a living for the company I own.

knowing some folks

Jun 15, 2022, 4:28 PM

I talked to in the college baseball world, they think he is going to do great things at Clemson.

The "not so smart" crowd of the Clemson fan base sees him as someone outside the good ol boy network, and that scares them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm with you. If he didn't have praises from folks all

Jun 15, 2022, 4:36 PM

over the business that'd be one thing, but the fact he is highly regarded and was changing Michigan into super regional and CWS team is enough for me at this point. I see no reason to crap on the dude when he hasn't even coached a game here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, Bakich previously rejected Cooterville? I like this man
