What If DJU Transferred & Became Heisman Candidate. What. ..
Nov 15, 2022, 6:29 PM
|
|
What would it mean; if DJU transferred out and became one of the best QB's in the country?
I am sure someone asked this hypothetical question. If so, please link it. I just didn't see it as I was off TNET a few days.
**To me, it would not be a good look.
Football - is the ultimate TEAM sport. A QB not looking bad sometimes isn't all on the QB. Are the WR's running the right routes? Are they dropping catchable balls? Are they not reading the defense right on option routes? Are they getting separation? Is the OL adjusting to calls at the line to change the protection or are they only able to go off what the call was? Basically, the default protection, if you will. Is the OC putting them in a good position?
Coach Longo at North Carolina has been able to put up consistent numbers; even after changing QB's. Air Raid-based and WR's who seem to be wide "blank" open!
I don't know if DJU was under a different system and if he would shine or not! Just asking really: what would the story on Clemson be if it happened?
Thinking in terms of counter-recruiting! Future prospects at QB "and at WR"!
I believe Dabo would cheer hard for him. Pull for him unless he is the opponent. I also believe it would cause him to raise questions about the tutelage he did or did not receive.
Tough situation. Hard to see both of our talented signal-callers staying next year! Glad I am not making the call. QB competition and one or both may want to move on. Because of the high fanfare, they came in with.

It wouldn’t necessarily be an indictment on the coaches just like OSU. They couldn’t develop Tate Martell, who was a highly decorated recruit. They couldn’t develop Joe Burrow, a Heisman winner and national champion QB. Their staff avoids criticism due to Justin Fields and CJ Stroud being first round picks. If Cade and/or Vizzina step in and have success then it is just a wrong fit or talent issue.

Well I guess that would mean he went to a better scheme fit and got a coach that helped him trust his eyes and throw the ball with anticipation to the right spot. Tbh there's usually no fixing these mental issues, if a QB is gun shy and has awful footwork and doesn't trust his eyes going into his senior year odds are he is at his ceiling and won't get alot better.

I’ll bite…
The spin would clearly be that Clemson was the reason he didn’t develop and future QB’s should take note. Those who want to cut the program down would take every opportunity.
While it wouldn’t be a good look, it would be an incredible story for a young man who has only represented our university with dignity and class. Despite his struggles on the field, I will root for DJ wherever he ends up and would hope all true Tiger fans do the same.

How would that pan out of Cade became an early Heisman candidate? A few coaches would become a lot smarter . Right.

From what I've READ here and other places

Our offense has been watered down so much for his benefit that it has become increasingly easy to defend against the Tigers. Now, I realize this 'watered down' could just as easily be said about our Receivers, but I believe that this is the root of our Offensive woes this season. I don't think DJU is capable of running some "Air Raid" offense because he can't make the reads and is too slow of foot.

How many games has he started now at Clemson? Close to 25 I would guess. He wasn’t that great in the first one and he wasn’t that great last Saturday!

IF he played this year versus ND like he did 2 years ago, it may have been a different result in '22.

Appreciate the replies. It's just a question. To all the people who don't get that "it's just a question" I don't know what to tell you. I am a DJU supporter. Much like I was a KB2 supporter and every Clemson Tigers football player and coach supporter.
It was just a dang question; don't try and read tea leaves that aren't there.
It wasn't an indictment on anyone 1st of all.
It pretty much was about how other schools could potentially use it! So, whatever!
I don't see how it was a negative question/statement at all!
Forest Tiger good question. If Cade became a Heisman candidate it would indeed mean, perhaps the year on the bench served him well! Or that the coaches who this season were in their 1st season at a P5 school as coordinators(Streeter and Richardson) and they figured some things out and are ready to cook in year 2. Could mean a lot of things; either way - I would be a happy camper!

If he transferred to Georgia, he would put up very similar numbers to JT Daniels there. And a walk on 24-year-old would likely be poised to start ahead of him

I could easily be wrong but I think DJ is more suited for a West Coast offense where he can just rare back and sling it all over the field. He is not a good RPO QB, too slow at decision-making. He would fit well in a Texas Tech or even TCU-type scheme. The one thing we have not done is change our offense to fit what he does well and we really should not have had to. We should have started a QB that fits our offense but Dabo committed to DJ and so they have just tried to mask the deficiencies rather than deal with them head-on.

world. There are obviously offensive systems out there that better suit his skill set than ours does. If he were placed in the right one, I could see him thriving. USC under Lincoln Riley comes to mind.
Whate'er befalls, this year should be the last for him as the Clemson starter. Sorry for him to make the comparison, but offensively, it is like the country after the 2020 election, but before we realized just how bad Creepy Uncle Joe was going to screw things up. It appeared that the nations four year long Trump nightmare was over, and better things were on the way. We can only hope that either Cade Klubnick or Christopher Vizzina is a LOT better than Biden, in our analogy.

He has two more years of eligibility.
I bet he is a top QB in his "covid senior" year.
