ROTC and Tiger Band

Apr 20, 2021, 6:51 PM

Now.....my son will just freshman in high school next year.....but.....the young buck is very driven . He has really been giving his future a lot of thought. His question was.....if he were to have the opportunity to go to college in tiger town, could he be part of the ROTC and the Band?.....I couldn’t answer that so I figured I give y’all a shout. TIA

I’m pretty sure freshman and sophomore ROTC is still a general elective unless you are on scholarship.
I would advise he reach out and establish contact. There will be an email address on their website. Many years ago they would have a day when hs students could shadow a cadet and learn about the program. That might still be in place.

I really enjoyed my time in AFROTC Det 770. Good luck to your son.

Shadowing would be really cool. We’ll definitely get on the site and check out all the options. Thank you. We really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Hey, CU85tiger, I graduated same year in AFROTC Det 770 and spent 29 years in the AF and am now still in the AF as a civilian. Pretty sure we know each other!

To the OP - Clemson Band is a year to year commitment - and a great thing, but AFROTC is much bigger. I highly recommend ROTC if your kid is interested in the military, but you can do both! What a great way to jump in the deep end in Clemson culture!

Please TMail me if you want to know more!

@OkiTiger

I was only in ROTC 80 & 81 - wanted to go on but had a glitch in my back that caused me to fail my physical.
Changed my major when AF was no longer an option and it took me an extra year so I guess your freshman year was my second and last year.

Sounds like you had and are having a great career.
