I think last night's game demonstrates more than ever that

Apr 6, 2021, 6:04 PM

in today's college basketball game speed and shooting kills. Baylor did not have even have a post-up guy on offense. They had guys who could set and roll off of screens, but not a guy you run sets for in a half-court offense. What they had were guards who could shoot the lights out and were too fast for Gonzaga to handle on either offense or defense. It truly is a guard's game. And I wish that Clemson could one day get guys who can shoot, blow by defenders to either get to the basket or to kick it out to other shooters, and cause havoc on defense where a team never gets comfortable. Oh, and also being able to pursue the ball on offensive rebounds wouldn't hurt either.

Very true. It was obvious from the very start that Baylor was much more athletic and quicker than the Zags. Even against UCLA, the Zags were not able to stop the penetration for either a lay-up or a kick-out.

I think the buzzer beater in the game before took it all out of them. Nothing left in the tank after that emotional win they were just empty in the championship game

Absolutely agree. I would have liked to see Gonzaga play Baylor Saturday. Hmmm. Gonzaga was physically and emotionally drained after playing in and winning perhaps THE BEST college basketball game EVER.

Gonzaga got the Hillary... thinking that they were entitled

to be champions this year and couldn't be beaten... whatever their lack of motivation may have been, the shoulda coulda woulda let Baylor win the title and they get no do overs... the record book will always say, Baylor Bears, 2020-2021 National Champions...

You did not see their big guys dominating the Offense boards***

You are correct. Their bigs bullied Gonzaga on the boards. Shooting can take nights off but rebounding can keep you in the game.

Yea UVA who won the previous championship 18-19 with the 192nd best offense in PPG might disagree with you.

Houston and Loyola who made it to the final four and sweet 16 with the top 2 defenses in the country.

I don't watch too much basketball nowadays but maybe the late night game 1-2 days before tired Gonzaga out a bit.

Yes the #1 and #3 offenses played for it this year but defense has won recent titles.

Wait, I’m confused.

Since we have gone to a smaller, faster lineup where all 5 players can hit a 3, the consensus here was that we need to get big men who can post up. Now I read your post saying that we don’t need a big lineup, bu a smaller one with more talented players.

You guys really need to make up your mind. ;)

Got to have three guys that can score athletic and speed we need someone or coach that's wiling to play a fast fun high scoring offense it can work here but we need a leader that believes start over and rebuild this thing

There's different ways to play the game. You "should" set it by your talent and by your personal style. Just because Baylor won that way, doesn't mean that is the only way to win, which it absolutely is not. But the fundamentals should be there with any style. It's fundamentals, not necessarily a specific style.
