I think it's time to share a Tiger evangelical story. . .

Feb 11, 2016, 9:00 PM

Growing up I was die hard Clemson, it's all I knew as dad went there. But my uncle married into a gamecock family. I have to say they were/are good folks otherwise. So my cousin grew up gamecock fan. I worked on him for years. He finally realized that for his course of study he should go to Clemson, went there, so did his sis. He graduated and recently went to both the ob and nc game. Never give up it's never too late to turn a coot unless they are stupid or went to school there. Keep on preachin'. Any other coot converts?

Being the oldest of four and a Clemson alumnus, my family

Feb 12, 2016, 5:19 AM

in Rock Hill became Tigers, save for my middle brother...for a while, that is.

He attended Anderson, then South Carolina for a year and was an ardent Gamecock. Years ago, at a Thanksgiving Dinner in our parents' home, most all of us were decked out in orange. He showed up in garnet, which provoked my Mother to lecture: "We're Clemson people here!"

Fast forward: his oldest son graduated from the Citadel; his youngest opted for Clemson. Finally under a barrage launched by his youngest son (and from our youngest brother whose family has been ALL IN forever,) he "announced" he had converted to the Orange. Thus, other than a UNC, Auburn and Gamecock thrown in the mix due to marriages, the circle is complete...and the family bleeds orange.

(Might add that my youngest bro, who's also a TNetter, has raised a suspicion a time or two that Bro #2 might still have a little garnet in his blood except that he won't show it around us! That's because the youngest would launch a rain of fire and brimstone on his as$ the likes of which he couldn't imagine! lol)

Close to turning a nephew who talked big during the 5 fingers years, When we lost to Bama, he texted me that it "broke his heart" that we didn't pull off the win.

My family doesn't breed with coots. End of story.

I grew up just the opposite. I was a die hard Gamecock fan and went to games all the time with an older sister who went to USC. My junior year in high school my best friend took me to a Clemson game. When I got home I gave all my Gamecock stuff away to my girl friend, who was a Gamecock fan. I ended up graduating from Clemson. I married my girl friend who ended up graduating from USC. Long story short, our son just graduated from Clemson, our daughter is a sophomore at Clemson and the wife is a Clemson convert. And it only took 30 years!
