I think it’s clear that Brent Venables

is not an offensive mastermind…
I wonder if he will soon start reflecting on how good he had it at Clemson?

He had some good players transfer out of the program.
His starting QB is injured and not playing.
Personally, I’m not gonna judge him as a head coach after six games.

Agree but this doesn’t look good at all.

He had it easier/more confident....

as our DC, no doubt about it. Well, he wanted to be a HC. So now he's seeing that "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" as the old saying goes.

While he’s not enjoying instant success, the “green” he’s seeing is very real.

I don't regard BV as some air-headed, money-grabbing

fool jumping at a chance for greener pastures.
He remained at OU and Clemson for years...a lot of years...and finally chose an opportunity at a prestigious school, something that I certainly can not fault.

I believe it's clear that OU is a dumpster fire, although not on the same level as USuC. Not sure what Riley did, but recruiting doesn't seem to be one of them. He must have seen what was coming and made his decision to leave. OU was a standard playoff contender for many years, but not now.

I think he get 3 to 5 years to figure it out. 6 games with another coach's left overs is hardly time enough to judge!

Agreed. BV needs some time. OU wanted him so badly, they would have done most anything to get him. He's their dream match. He'll have time. Hope he is able to do it.

at clemson he could focus only on defense and be fine..thats why some who are great coordinators just dont cut it as head men..there is nothing wrong with that

I hated to see him go but was happy he got the opportunity. Every Tiger fan should be thankful to Brent Venables. He was very instrumental in the two Natty trophies sitting in our case.

I mean the best coaches to ever grace the sidelines at Death Valley.
And we owe him a depth of gratitude. I wish him and his family well.

He always talked about how great he had it at Clemson. Was obviously a hard decision for him and talks positively every chance he gets. He got a crazy good opportunity that was almost impossible to say no to. No Bitterness that I can sense from anywhere. Hope he can turn it around.

What would you have said in Saban's first season at Alabama when he lost to Louisiana Monroe?

He's a head coach. Doubt he will look back to us for a job down the road unless he's completely broke and ok with being a career DC.
