I think Clemson fans can breathe easy about FSU.

Nov 3, 2019, 4:57 PM

I know nothing, obviously. I was shocked Willie was fired today. I thought he would at least get through the season.

But, I can't believe FSU would go after an assistant coach from anywhere, even Clemson.

People were skeptical when Willie was hired because of his lack of experience, only one year as HC in a P5 school.

I gotta believe they have their guy in hand. I have no idea who that is, but I'm thinking it is a guy with a proven record at a P5 school, or at least one with a better pedigree than Taggart.

Heck, they might see the success that Miles and Brown and Edwards (success being a relative term) and figure out a way to convince Bob Stoops to come to FSU.

I would think Stoops, which is highly unlikely, would be more likely than Scott or Elliott or even Venables. I also don't think any of those three would be interested in FSU.

I think a great move would be to target Satterfield...

I think he would be a a great hire... but he is in the same division.

Yeah, you won't see that from the same division in the ACC. ACC doesn't pluck from it's same conference like the SEC does...

The word out of L-ville is Satterfield would have to pay 37 million to the School if he leaves this year. He an't going anywhere.

Louisville was one thing when he went there. FSU is totally a different set of circumstances right now with what all that is going on there. Next guy in will earn his money getting things squared away. The list of coaches that can make that dog hunt is few and far between.

I like Satterfield. But, I would be SHOCKED!!!! if he was hired.

His resume is far weaker than Taggart's. Taggart took two schools, WKU and USF and turned them into winners. Then he spent one year at Oregon.

Satterfield was highly successful at Appy State. He's only been at UL one year.

Fans would go beserk if he hired another guy with a weak resume.

another guy I would seriously look at is the guy at UNCC

The Dabo model can work (meaning hiring a young, inexperienced guy)... if you guys give someone like him time, and make him earn his money... he could do well

You got a lot of choices, done on staff. Levitt and Briles. Mark stoops has history at FSU. Many good choices.

if leavitt or briles was a serious candidate, it would seem one of them would have gotten the interim job.

Brilles lost his job at Baylor because of a sexual scandal
so it is doubtful he would be considered.

Big financial loss and time laws to give up on Willie Taggart. But the coaching was bad. Team discipline was bad. Team culture was bad. Did not seem to be getting better. But the real issue also comes down to recruiting. Taggart is not recruiting well and especially compared to Clemson.

Clemson already has a commitment from 8 of the top 48 players In ESPN 300 plus Burch at number five and Flowe at number nine are possibilities to come to Clemson.

That means 40% of the top 10 players, 30% of the top twenty players, and 20% of the top 48 players are coming to Clemson. 10% of the top 150 players.

Notably, Florida State is absent from the elite players and doesn't even show up until number 87. Even if Willie Taggart could coach, he cannot win with that much disparity in players. Clemson is top loaded with high end talent coming in. Florida State is starting off at the lower end of the second tier of good players.

Taggart could not keep his job and recruit like that

Our guys are to smart to go to that dumpster fire.

I think FSU should go after someone with SEC

Nov 3, 2019, 8:28 PM

experience like Phil Fulmer, or Tommy Tubberville.

Losing a coordinator is the last and least of my concerns.

Nov 3, 2019, 8:29 PM

I worry about what I'm having for a midnight snack but I'm not worried about anyone leaving Clemson. Everything that happens makes Clemson more successful.

Money won't buy happiness and everyone at Clemson is happy.

When the attendance dropped so much this year, that made me think Taggart might be in trouble. It was an indication that the fanbase had given up on him....can't say I blame them, as he was in over his head.

Whomever you hire, if he's decent, he can get to 9-3 without much drama. To get to Clemson's level though will require a very good hire.

Paul Johnson is available ??

Nov 3, 2019, 9:09 PM

I think it may be a Stoops, but not Bob.

Sark at Bama? Someone mentioned Claussen in another thread and he'd bring character and coaching ability. Do you target someone with Florida ties for recruiting? Take a chance on a guy like Huepel?

You could really liven things up and hire Lane Kiffin ??
