I’ve been a Clemson football fan for 40 years and only recently have had my devotion to Clemson football questioned, based on football posts deemed “critical.”

I’ve been a Clemson football fan for 40 years and only recently have had my devotion to Clemson football questioned, based on football posts deemed “critical.”
Judge, you do the same to others, question their loyalty when they question Coach Brownell and the basketball team. Now, in this case, I don't put Coach Brownell on the same pedestal as Coach Swinney. Coach Swinney has transformed our program into a powerhouse and thus we should trust him. I am not against Coach Brownell but he is not on the level that Coach Swinney is and he has not earned that trust yet.

and it's getting annoying watching the "Dabo can fix anything" people run their mouths as well. I'm a part of the "let's just see what happens". If it was just one person to replace, that's fine. He's gotta replace two coordinators at a time that the AD has left. Not sure he ever planned for that. The fact that we aren't seeing the "here's who Dabo should get for DC/OC" articles on ESPN or SI lets me know that the media does not care what happens as long as Dabo doesn't make homerun hires. If he hires from within, we won't get any mention anywhere until we go at least 6-0 next season when they will be forced to start talking.

Wow! Why do you care what the media says and what recognition they give you? That does not win one single game and if it did Clemson would be in the Natty this year based on media reaction.
What you call Sunshine pumpers is usually just people tired of hearing others gripe and moan and trash the players and the coaches.
Finally It would be interesting to see how many big name hires are successful and how many are not successful.
I do not know what Dabo will do but I do believe He will do the absolute best He can and He does have a track record and that’s why people trust him.
Finally I do not understand why promoting within your own program is a bad thing! People are hired for potential and the. They are trained in the way you would like things done and then if they prove they are good at their job they are promoted when positions are available! That is how you create loyalty and continuity! It is a great system and I think the only time you go out side of your program is if there are not any qualified candidates within.

So, help me to understand. A head coach who has brought us the best period in Clemson Football history with four National Championship appearances, two national Championships, 5 playoff berths, numerous big bowl wins and National recruiting classes that have put Clemson on the map as a destination and not an option; he doesn't deserve a fan base that supports him and defends him even when the odds are stacked against him? Are we really sunshine pumpers if we support our Hall of Fame Coach through the good and the bad that has made us a National power and not a regional power? Are we really sunshine pumpers if we are loyal to a Coach that has been loyal to us and his staff? Are we blinded by orange glasses if we choose not to question a Coach who has made many dreams come true for many Tiger fans by bringing us Championships that some of us were not sure if we would see in our lifetime? In 12 years hasn't Coach Swinney done enough to receive our loyalty and faith that he can and will fix issues as they arise? I guess being loyal and not questioning a future Hall of Fame coach who has done nothing but win and win big is being a sunshine pumper. If so, I guess I am one of those pumpers.

When we start next year not only “not missing a beat” but better than this year; I cannot wait to remind these @$$holes that claim to be Clemson fans.

I think you're missing his point. You can "pump sunshine" all you want. It's those who do so while criticizing anyone with an opposite point of view - who questions anything about the on-going situation with coaches leaving the program, promoting replacements from within, etc. We're all entitled to our opinions. It would be nice to present them in a mature sports forum where we don't incur the wrath of those who think otherwise...

I do agree somewhat! I have been a Clemson fan for about 50 years, and seen both the very bad and good, and remained a fan always. After losing both Venables, Elliot, and the AD however, it would be unrealistic to expect next season to be up to what we as fans have come to expect. That is not an indictment of Dabo though, and is more a product of the sustained success Clemson has enjoyed. I do think Dabo has made some mistakes that deserve consideration. He has been too loyal to Uiagaleilei, who if we are honest, has not been that good. Also he has been reluctant to bring in new talent from the transfer portal, that he never agreed with being created. I get that, and even agree with him that the transfer portal is not good for the game, nor is NIL deals. If Clemson is to remain competitive in the future, we can't just pretend the portal does not exist, because we are losing good players to the portal. He must, in my opinion start utilizing the portal like every other top tier team. The rules that were changed to create the portal, and allow NIL deals, are not to his or my liking, but those are the rules now and we must operate within that framework. In my opinion, Poumechaun is better than Uiagaleilei, and should have been allowed to prove that this past season when Uiagaleilei was struggling so badly. Now Poumechaun is entering the portal. I fear we will see him next year in the Heisman talk for some other team. It was the same blunder UGA made with Jake Fromm being played over Justyn Fields. Of course, some of the Uiagaleilei trouble are due to a very weak blocking OL, that could have been improved via portal transfers. I trust Dabo to eventually figure it out, but that might take a few years. I actually expect Clemson to go 7-5 next year. Going 8-4 would be better than I expect, and to match the 9-3 record from this season would be cause to celebrate. Anyone calling for Clemson to fire Dabo Swinney needs psychological help.

I agree with most of your thoughts. However TP has nothing in common with Fields except they both wear a helmet. He was a limited player coming off of a torn Achilles. I really believe that Dabo was between a rock and a hard place last year at QB.

I, for one, at the risk of being subject to the sophomoric and moronic replies that are popping up on this site with regularity, would like to see Dabo be more transparent and accessible so that he could put to rest all the negative chatter that is not really healthy for the future of Clemson football. He has built one of the greatest and most successful programs in the nation. I believe he will do it again. I’ve got confidence in him. Just talk to us. It’s not helping anyone to be silent. BTW, I’ve been a fan for 44 years.
