I remember in the late 90's when Mack Brown lost to FSU

his last 2 seasons at UNC (they had 10 wins each year - and in the National Championship conversation). My UNC friends (I live in NC) couldn't wait to get rid of Brown. "We need a HC who can beat FSU" they said. They got their wish when Brown left for Texas. They've won 10 games in a season once since then.
You folks crying about Dabo because he won't play the QB you want him to play or because he made the secretaries stay at work an extra hour - you've completely lost your minds.

I love Dabo and want him to stay as Coach for a LONG time. But he is just a man. He makes mistakes. Him saying fans have no freaking clue is stupid. And frankly surprised he would say that.

I'm not sure he means that . . .

as a citation of the exact verbiage "fans don't have a clue." I think he means treating them as such. He did say "The process is knowing reality. I know what the issues are -- not what some people think they are." That when combined with all the hyper-defensiveness on the issue (reciting his resume rather than answering the question on substance, mentioning a bevy of other position groups whenever he's asked about QB play, etc.) creates a collective picture of marginalizing the opinion of fans who have something critical to say. He doesn't merely answer and disagree, he' hems, haws, goes here, goes there, talks about his resume, etc. Everyone doesn't have to agree on the issue, of course, but it's not like he isn't evoking the attitude that the other post said he is.

dabo did say in exact verbiage

what Dabo actually said
That's what I get paid to do, all I can tell you is I'm going to do my job," Swinney said. "If it comes a time where people don't like how I do my job, they can hire somebody else, but until then, I'm not going to make any decisions based on what other people what me to do -- I can tell you that. If I did that, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you tonight, and the reality of it is we're a 10-2 football team playing for our league title and one of the most consistent teams in the country.
"Every year is different. Nobody has their head in the sand. We've got to get better in a lot of areas. We know that, but if we want to fire the head coach and fire the staff every year if we don't make the Playoff then you're going to have a new head coach here very often and you're going to have a new staff here every year because that ain't going to happen a lot. There's only four teams. If that's the mindset of Clemson, there will be a new head coach here and a new staff every year and it will be a very mediocre, inconsistent program. That's how I look at it.
"I get it. I know what my job is. There's nobody who works harder to represent Clemson and cares more about Clemson and the brand of Clemson than me -- I promise you that. Because I know where we've come from. I know where we've come from, and I know when we won that championship in 2011 and that hadn't happened in 20 years. Hadn't won 10 games in 20 years. And now we win 10 games and it's like nobody cares. You go to the ACC Championship and nobody cares. That's not true. A lot of vocal minority people don't care. But I ain't ever listen to those people and I ain't never going to listen to those people. I hear ya, but I'm going to keep doing my job.
"And again, I've got bosses. If they don't like how I do my job, they can send me out to pasture, but I'm going to show up every day and keep giving it everything I've got every single day as long as I've got breath in my body and I'm going to surround myself with people that I believe in because that's what we got here. We've got a bunch of great people and great kids that work their butt off to create the consistency that's so rare."

That's irrelevant . . .

I had read all that prior, and I don't have a problem with those comments as a general baseline from which to operate. I certainly don't believe that Dabo needs to stick his finger in the wind and go with the popular flow. I'm glad he has that kind of perspective. But there's a balance to had between that, on the one hand, and becoming insular, on the other. I certainly don't begrudge his prerogative, but it doesn't mean he's categorically immune from being insular and wrong, and his wise discernment about not simply following popular demand also does not mean the critics are as out to lunch and uninformed as he seems to imply.

Thursday, December 1, 2022, 7:00 AM After loss to the Gamecocks, even Clemson's secretaries had to watch game film
by David Hood
Senior Writer
This past Monday was an afternoon that those who are regularly inside Clemson’s football facility will never forget.
The secretaries were watching the clock, hoping to head home before the late fall darkness descended on Clemson. A myriad grouping of other employees were performing their tasks with no idea what was about to happen.
What happened? Head coach Dabo Swinney gathered everyone inside the facility to watch the replay of Clemson’s 31-30 loss to South Carolina. It wasn’t the fact that Clemson lost – losses happen – it was how it happened to a team that Swinney feels isn’t as talented as his Tigers. It happened because of poor play at several positions and poor execution across the board.
And everybody had to watch it.
Swinney appeared on the Gramlich and Mac Lain Podcast with Kelly Gramlich and Eric Mac Lain this week to preview this week’s ACC Championship against North Carolina, and Swinney was asked how he handles talking to quarterback DJ Uiagalelei after a game like that, who wasn’t the main reason Clemson lost but is held as the scapegoat by many.
“Tell them the truth. This hasn't happened very often because we don't lose a lot of games. So our Mental Monday meeting, I made everybody in the building, from the secretaries to the administrative staff, everybody in the building had to watch the tape. We watched it all together,” Swinney said. “And I ran the tape from about 4 pm to 6 pm, for two hours. Because when you lose a game like that, you get a lot of this (mimics people talking) and everybody on the outside thinks they know and they ain't got a freaking clue. So, I think it's important that everybody knows what's real and that everybody understands with complete clarity what happened and why and what we have got to do about it.”
Swinney said the meeting drove his point home, even for the secretaries.
“It was a two-hour meeting of complete clarity, and so you just tell everybody the truth. It's not complicated, and when you don't do the things that you need to do, you don't deserve to win,” Swinney said. “So, I pulled out the plays that we needed, offensively, defensively and special teams. And you just kind of stop the projector and you say, okay, let's talk about it. So why are your eyes not on your work? Do we not go over it? Do we not practice? Is this a new play? This is all about execution. The quarterback is no different. You tell them the truth. But I think it's also important because of what you say, because everybody blames everything on the quarterback, and that would be an easy decision, but it's not.”
Uiagalelei isn’t completely at fault, but it sounds like he will be on a short leash this week in Charlotte.
“Now again, he's back on the mat with a two count, so he's got to play well, but you know, that's just where we are,” Swinney said. “So, tell him the truth. He has to take ownership of his place. But then also everybody needs to see what we didn't do around him.”
Swinney listed several plays that the Tigers could and should have made but didn’t, and said that everyone has to do their job for the offense to be successful. And when it isn’t, you make everybody watch the tape.
“Tell the truth. Be transparent. And this ain't middle school,” Swinney said. “So, Mental Monday? It was a good one.”

Great post. We don't appreciate what we realize we have so much to be thankful for. I am finishing my 3rd cup of coffee and looking out the window and seeing a beautiful blue sky and bright sun. God is good.
