I lost mine a year ago, it’s tough.

I’m praying for you to have comfort, peace & love beyond our understanding. To be comforted to know she walked from this live immediately into another & she’s cheering you on, knowing she will see you very soon. I pray for your continued recovering in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

Praying for you. Grief is part of the process. Don't try to fight it or ignore it. Just let it be part of the process.

And, the best advice I ever heard when grieving the loss of a loved one was this: No matter how prepared you think you are, you aren't.

There are worse things than death. With my wife's family

Jul 19, 2021, 1:52 PM

now dealing with her mother having Alzheimers, it would be more of a blessing if the Lord would go ahead and call Ma home. Her memory is in rapid decline, and there WILL come a day when she doesn't even recognize any of us.

Yes, having to grieve for a loved one who isn't even physically gone, but has checked out mentally is worse than dealing with actual post death grief in some situations.

But I do offer prayers that you will eventually be able to go forward from this point, and remember your mother only with joy.

Jul 20, 2021, 6:13 PM [ in reply to There are worse things than death. With my wife's family ]

My mother passed away about a year and a half ago after a long, brutal struggle with Alzheimer's disease. No one knows how hard it is to have your mother that raised you and took care of you and loved you all your life suddenly not know who you are. I remember telling someone when it got to the end that I realize now there ARE things in this life that are worse than death. I wouldn't wish what we went through on my worst enemy.
It's only looking back sometimes in retrospect that we see how the Lord helped us and even carried us through the darkest times. I love what Christ told Martha at the tomb of Lazarus...."I am the resurrection, the truth and the life. He that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." I will be praying for you and your family and your strength that your faith would fail not.

Prayers offered my friend. "Stay strong and keep the faith" ( something Dabo said to me once before a serious operation a few years ago...it could apply here as well). Time will help ease the pain but it will help to remember that you will have eternity with her.

It's tough.

Jul 19, 2021, 4:51 PM

I intend to share something which helps me bear the pain of a lost loved one.

We don't often get to experience what Christ experienced and almost never share in God's personal experiences but I believe in a specific relationship between the spiritual and physical worlds. It's clear that the spiritual already existed when the physical world was created.

I always though the comparisons Jesus made to the root, vine, branches and grapes in John 15 was a really good way to explain how abiding in Him would produce spiritual fruit. I think I had it backwards. I believe the entire physical world was created to give us a frame of reference for the spiritual world.

With that though in mind I tried to appreciate how I might learn from experiencing the loss of someone dear. Christians know the separation is temporary. We know that we'll see our loved ones again and every day that waiting period gets shorter and shorter.

I believe that we are tasting the pain that God felt when He had to abandon our Savior and see Him die on the cross. Christ had to enter hell to pay for our sin. The worst part of hell, imo, is the absence of God. The flames don't scare me, the concept that I won't be present with my God is something I can't bear, it's a place I refuse to look for the pain it brings.

I'm consoled that this separation is temporary so let the pain come and know that not only is she waiting at the feet of our Almighty and His Son, our Savior she suffers the pain we share no more.

Grief is a strange creature. It's strong enough to overwhelm even the best of us. However, as time goes on the periods between grief striking us down becomes further and further apart in time. It won't get easier but the grief will strike less frequently.

Lost my Mom a little over a year ago. Prayers that you will find comfort and cherish the memories of your Mom. It was hard but Mom had Dementia for 6 and 1/2 years and It was time for her to go to the Lord. I now see it as an honor to be able to help take of Her. Your Mom would want you to carry on in life and celebrate her life and to live a happy life.

I lost my mother and father on the same day.

Jul 20, 2021, 1:08 PM

My dad died of a heart attack at the age of 36 and my mom changed in a strange way to a foreign person. Over the years she had good periods and bad times when it was too easy to wear out my welcome to go see her.

My sister and brother put her in a nursing home and I went to say goodbye for the last time. I rejoiced when she died. She was the first testimony to Jesus in my life.

We lived in an apt complex in Marietta, GA near Waterman Ele. I was in the first grade that year and came home thinking about Superman on TV, Saturday morning cartoons and other things a child looks forward to. I asked her what she looked forward to and she questioned me about what I meant, exactly.

That was 62 or 63 years ago and I can still see her standing there in front of a little gas cook stove making supper. I explained what I've listed above as what I look forward to and she plainly said she looked forward to dying so she could be with Jesus.

As bad as life got for her and as good as it got I never doubted her heart's desire was to go to the throne of God and sit in His presence without the hindrances of this mortal body.

Re: I need prayers

I truly understand how you must be feeling. I know how tough it was to lose my best friend father and then 15 years later my own very special Mom. As tough as both of these were to me NOTHING can top the loss one week prior to this past Thanksgiving of my beautiful wife of 44 years who exceeded Proverbs 31: 10-12 for "An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of her life." I feel for you in your own grieving process for I am deeply into my own.... But I am so thankful for my Lord Jesus who was there for me 1:1 on the morning of her passing as well as the 5-7 fellow therapist colleagues of hers who have closely followed my ongoing path to a meaningful life from here on out! But as believers we do live on with the promise that we too will be reunited with all of our loved ones in Paradise on day! Amen!

I will be praying for you 4paws81. I still have days when I miss my mom so much that my heart aches. She passed away in January of 2019 but sometimes memories will cause me to tear up or I will catch myself wanting to call her on the phone. Grieving is different for everyone so I will pray that God will give you relief from your grief through his strength, his comfort and his peace. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.
