I love the team but Brad made mistakes

Jan 7, 2017, 4:58 PM

You do NOT go zone on inbounds pass under there basket when they are shooting the lights out. ND dude was wide open for the 3.
We should have fouled at the end down by 2. They were not even in the Bonus, Come on coach. Please pick up you game

It wasn't a zone. Gabe wasn't paying attention.

Get a clue before you run your mouth.

You should check the replay. It wasn't a zone. Gabe's man was in the corner. He wasn't paying attention and it cost us. Get a clue about basketball.

I know season is young but this has been happening for 7 years ; they spent a lot of money on building upgrades : no amount of money overcomes bad coaching decisions though.

Name a bad decision dude. Brownell won us the game against SC but now we lose to 2 ranked teams, and he sucks.

Y'all are ridiculous.

IMO Coach made the right moves. Can't argue with anything at this point. The starters were tired and even Beachum had just air balled one after hitting like 6. Devoe should have been more alert.

Going on the road facing a top 25 team and having a shot at the win is massive progress. The team looks like a NCAA tournament team now and should get better as Blossomgame gets his jumpshot to start falling and Thomas gets more comfortable. Holmes should start contributing more as well.

I know the players know they could have easily taken the last two games and that they have a chance to be one of the better teams in the country in March.

we only had 4 team fouls at the end--could have fouled going for a steal to disrupt them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can't foul there. If you do the shot clock

Jan 7, 2017, 5:39 PM [ in reply to Re: What were the bad coaching decisions?*** ]

Is turned off as the game is under 30 seconds and you have to keep fouling until you put the best FT shooting team in the nation on the line with a two point lead. Think for a second

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You can't foul there. If you do the shot clock

Jan 7, 2017, 5:39 PM

we had 2 fouls to give--try for a steal at least once

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But if you foul going for a steal you must put them on the line

Jan 7, 2017, 5:43 PM

and they hit a 30 footer. Just give them credit

Re: What were the bad coaching decisions?***

Jan 7, 2017, 6:56 PM [ in reply to What were the bad coaching decisions?*** ]

I'm not one of the anti Brownell people around here but that WAS a bad decision not to foul at the end. When you're down 2, the other team has been shooting lights out from 3 pt range, and there's 4 seconds difference between the shot clock and game clock, you need to foul. You can't afford to let them run the clock down AND get a basket.

Overall, I thought he coached a good game. Not so much the last minute.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There was a seven second difference

Jan 7, 2017, 7:34 PM

You foul once you must foul twice more and put the best FT shooting team in the. nation on the line to make it a two possession game. Can't see how that's a better option than getting a thirty footer as the shot clock expired. Guy just nailed it. Cudos to him and move on

There was a 7 second difference and we forced them into a prayer shot. You take those odds every time.

Watch a basketball game or something, people.

Jan 7, 2017, 5:02 PM

Also you're saying to foul the best free throw shooting team in the country. Yea, real smart.

If they don't make a 35 footer, we have the ball and a chance to tie. It's a no-brainer. You don't foul.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I love the team but Brad made mistakes

Jan 7, 2017, 5:03 PM

we had only 4 fouls--go for a steal-if you foul so what

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I love the team but Brad made mistakes

If you foul they get a new shot clock and you lose your difference. Please dude.

Trying to have a conversation with you without you yelling. It that is possible here goes:
we should have fouled because they were not in bonus yet. We needed to get the where the next foul they would be in bonus. Playing 2 moves ahead like in chess.

How can I be yelling when I'm typing?

Why would you give away fouls? There was a 7 second difference in the shot clock. 37 game clock, 30 shot clock. They were (and did) going to use all of that and then throw up a shot. They got lucky it went in.

If you foul even once, the shot clock resets. You lose the differential you were working with aka your time to get the ball and go tie the game.

You do not foul in that situation. If they were in the bonus, were handing them points because they're the best free throw shooting team in America. And if they're not in the bonus (like today), then you're just giving them more time.

You play defense, get it back, and rush it up. Attack the basket and try and tie it or win it.

ND was fortunate because the dude threw in another prayer. There's your explanation.

Re: I love the team but Brad made mistakes

Jan 7, 2017, 5:58 PM

But they didn't get lucky. They hit an unguarded NBA 3. Not a 35 footer. You foul twice in that scenario because if they hold the ball and we don't get a stop, it's a 2 score game with 7-seconds left, which is a no-win scenario. At least fouling stops the clock and gives us a chance. The lack of coaching was also evident in refusing to change how we defended the 3 point shot. They weren't killing us inside so why were we so determined to crash on the dribble drive continuously leaving open shooters. Watch the game back and see how many of their treys were uncontested. As a former player in a program that placed such a high priority on defense, this loss was difficult to watch when simple adjustments were never made.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They lead the nation in FT %

Jan 7, 2017, 6:10 PM

you don't put them on the line to make it a two possession game. He was 8 feet behind the three point line, which makes it a 30 footer. I'll take my chances with that.

The one open three on the in bounds play was a blown defensive assignment by Devoe. That's just a bad play at a bad time, not poor coaching

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

3 seconds on the shot clock... and it wasn't zone

Jan 7, 2017, 5:03 PM

we were in too much help, b/c you guard the middle and take away the quick lob

mistake on the backside by the defender

Jan 7, 2017, 5:43 PM

For this game. There was absolutely no coaching going on in this game. When ND is raining 3s, commit to tight D on the perimeter and make them beat you inside. And how in the world do you not foul on that last possession of ND?!! So difficult to watch this game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Smh-you don't foul with less than 30 seconds left

Jan 7, 2017, 5:46 PM

the shot click woukd be off and you'd have to foul until they went to the line

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I love the team but Brad made mistakes

Jan 7, 2017, 6:03 PM

Total coaching and player loss today with a Notre Dame team that was ripe for defeating. No way you leave them with two uncontested three's in the last minute. Also, and throughout the game, why are our bigs, when that close to the basket, not just going up and slamming it. We had a good 6-8 opportunities to do so during the course of the game. Stuffs should overcome our misses that close to the basket.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't mind us waiting out that possession down two, but

Jan 8, 2017, 2:39 PM

we had no business letting that kid have even a foot of space to shoot. He was extremely hot and he was gonna crank up a three no matter what. Mitchell was camped out right at the three point line and the kid had three feet of open court between him and Mitchell defending. Of course he was going to shoot. That finish was monumentally disappointing.
