My biggest problem with 2 games in Cootlumbia

Mar 2, 2020, 10:36 AM

Segra Park was not ready to host that game.

To start with, the scoreboard was not being operated for almost the entire first inning.

Then when they did start operation there were mistakes taking place from start to finish. Whoever was running the scoreboard seemed like they had never done it before.

Also players' hometowns were posted on the board when they came in to pitch or hit. Several of those were incorrect as well with the wrong hometown or even wrong state for some of the players from each team.

Season statistics listed for players on the scoreboard were also incorrect frequently.

The "fan fest" outside the front of the stadium was a let down as well. Also, and this is a preference thing, having to walk through blasting music to get to the stadium entrance was poorly planned.

The park was a zoo to try to move around from one place to another and getting anything to eat or drink was almost impossible. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or if the park itself just can't handle that crowd.

They announced a record crowd for the game and it felt, based on their ability to accommodate that crowd, that they either weren't expecting the crowd to be that big or they just simply didn't know what to do with that many people.

When someone accepts a huge rivalry game like that they should be prepared for what comes with it.

Segra Park fell flat in that and most other areas.

Needs to be in Joe Riley every few years in an actual neutral site.

Pellicans Stadium would be nice also. Rotate the state***

Didn’t go in person, but similar poor experience for TV viewers. Information on graphics was wrong more than it was right. Stream dropped out multiple times. Camera work was poor. Camera quality was hazy.

I don’t blame the ACCN as this was a local Segra production with the Clemson radio broadcast playing over the top of it. TV productions at both Founders Park and Doug Kingsmore were excellent.

Riley in Charleston is a great idea. I never thought about that field. Myrtle Beach would also be a good site but I think they played the race card about something a few years ago.

The Riverdogs and Drive do an excellent job of hosting big games and events.

I can't speak for the Pelicans park as a fan but I know they have hosted NCAA regional and super regional games and seemed to get good feedback on fan experience from those.

Segra is a distant 4th in terms of fan experience compared to those first two and probably Myrtle Beach as well.

Knights stadium in Charlotte. Good neutral site . Great park.

So you have to go to a stadium in North Carolina to host two South Carolina teams?

LIKED THE STADIUM EVEN BETTER THAN GREENVILLE BECAUSE OF CONCESSIONS AND BATHROOM FACILITIES. JUST TALKING STADIUM. THE SURROUNDING AREA WAS A WASTELAND. AND TIGER O IS CORRECT. THE GUY DOING THE SCOREBOARD WAS A 3RD GRADER OR ON DRUGS. GREENVILLE NEEDS TO WORK ON SOME THINGS ALSO. THAT BEING SAID GREENVILLE IS THE CHOICE HANDS DOWN. MAINLY BECAUSE OF SURROUNDINGS

I agree that none of them are perfect either because of location or ballpark intricacies, but my main complaint was with the staff ability to host he event.

My favorite part of the stadium were the high top table sections in both outfield corners. I thought it was a really cool way to have space available to watch the games but not just traditional seat-backs that will be left empty for 90% of games in the park. Those areas seemed to go completely unused on Saturday however.
Possibly because there was no direction on if they were available to anyone or if it was an assigned section.

I agree Greenville has the best park surroundings. Both Charleston and Myrtle Beach have good things to do within a 5 minute drive of the park in terms of entertainment or food options before or after games.

I know money rules the decisions but I would love to see the game rotate around all of the minor league parks near South Carolina as long as they can get the staff at those parks prepared to host the event.

The Friday production was visually acceptable but the coot announcers were MISERABLE to listen to.

It makes you appreciate the abilities of our Clemson announcing crews.

2009 for ACC Championship. Sold club seats but had NO concessions. Finally sent a guy to sell beer from an ice chest.

If you’re not gonna be prepared then don’t host the event
