How would Dabo Have done during the Bowden Years?

It seems like ACC has really dropped off last 4 years or so and it was actually at its peak during Bowden's tenure, with BC, NC State, Wake, Maryland having some really good teams.
I never really understood the need to fire Bowden mid way through a season just to replaced him with his wide receivers coach.

I think you are wrong about that. Nc State had Philip Rivers, BC has Matt Ryan, Maryland was like top 5, top 10 team for a few years, Wake's coach was being looked at for all kind of big time coaching jobs.
I think for a few years ACC was the best conference top to bottom but it seems like all the pgorams kind of got bad at the same time.

We were picked to win the ACC that year. Then lost. Then lost again, and again, to crappy teams that shouldn't have come close to us. We had the same hype that year that we have this year, but then cruddy coaching sent it all down the drain. That's why he was fired mid season.

Ah, but still, did they really think his wide receivers coach was going to turn it around? Seems like a stab in the dark too me.
It seems like Clemson should be able to get a big name coach if SC was able to secure two in a row given Clemson has a better national reputation in football.

Why am I a troll? WHat is your proof?
Also, what is funny about my screenname? It is just a screenname, surprised it gets so much commentary.

Given the whole application and interview process

It takes awhile to just hire a coach mid season, unless they are already coaching for that school you see. Plus, whoever made the decision, I salute, because Dabo turned around the program.

How many losses do you think Dabo can absorb this year and still keep his job? I like some aspects of Dabo but just not all that confident he knows what he is doing from a strategy and scheme standpoint.

Dabo is 40-21 at clemson. That is a very good record, and has only been improving as years go on. Bowden was 72-45, and never had a single season with more than 9 wins. Dabo has had 2 in the 4 years he has been head coach.

You must not have been alive that long, b/c ACC hasn't been that great last few years, especially last season. Dabo wouldn't have had more than 9 wins during those Bowden years, WHICH IS MY ENTIRE POINT.

But it's been awhile since they were ever a powerhouse. It has mainly all been FSU and Clemson, with Miami ever fluctuating, then having your occasional Doug Flutie or Lawrence Taylor.

Well actually FSU fell off in this era some, as Maryland, Wake, BC all won our division.

I was just saying in the existence of the ACC, not just this era. But I'm tired of going back and forth, you can talk to yourself if you care, but I'm done talking about this subject.

You must be assuming...

|
|
That Dabo would have recruited the same players, hired the same coordinators, etc. I don't know that it is a reasonable question if you are asking what Dabo would do if you just switched him and Tommy. But if that were the case, I would suggest that the players would be more consistently prepared for the games physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Well you might be right, it is hard to assess the strengths of coaches but sometimes I think Dabo is just better at looking like a "good" leader than Bowden.
What is weird to me is Dabo is supposed to be this awesome recruiter but we have struggled so much on defense lasat two years, I don't remember Clemson ever being that bad on defense under Bowden.

We improved quite significantly over the last year with BV. We had some great recruiting in areas of need two years ago at linebacker and last cycle at DB. The kids are young but we believe they will come on strong this season if we can keep them healthy. TB wasn't the worst coach I've ever seen but I much prefer the direction our team is going now versus during his tenure.

Ok, well I am not complaining about Dabo but I do think Bowden could have have similar success the past few years in the ACC given it really has dropped off in recent years, in my view.
Bowden did have the tendency to lose to a bad team after beating a real good team and so far we haven't seen that with Dabo, at least not enough that I can remember one.

LOL, yeah I would have thought Bowden would seem ok after the past 4 years against gamechickens. Bowden was architect of 63-17.

I think Clemson would have been ACC Champions in 2006 for certain and probably in 2008 as well. Clemson would have beaten BC that night in 2007 to win the division.

Clemson got beat by Matt Ryan on BC in 2006 on a last minute throw that most college QB's could execute.
Has Dabo faced an ACC qb with that kind of talent?
