Just some perspective on Sammy's season

Nov 5, 2012, 4:10 PM

Watkins has only played in 5 and a half games this year. In 5 and? a half games, he has 38 catches for 501 yards and 2 TDs. He's accounted for 4 TD's, with one rushing and one throwing. All of this while Deandre Hopkins is having a breakout, monster year.

Here's some perspective:

SCAR's leading receiver has 23 catches for 366 yards and 3 TD's. Watkins is better in 5 and a half games than SCAR's best receiver in a full season.

I'm just sayin'.

I knew someone might say that.

Clemson averages 198 yards a game on the ground. SCAR averages 145.

Next argument?

What percentage of the offense comes from running vs passing?

Clemson 725 total offensive plays 56% run 44% pass.
SC 589 total offensive plays 60% run 40% pass

Pretty much a wash on the percentages, but Clemson has run almost 25% more plays than usc.

Okay, but this is about Sammy.

Nov 5, 2012, 4:27 PM

Sammy has run significantly less plays than any of your guys, because he's missed 3 and a half games. One would think that one of your receivers would be able to get a jump on him.

It's not our fault we run more plays. Get a better offensive coordinator. We'd still out-gain you if we ran the same amount of plays. In fact, the difference in yardage would probably be worse.

so 406 runs(Clemson) to 354 runs(usuc) and clemson averages 50 more ypg. Why is Clemson penalized for running more plays? Whats your logic?

dug a little further its roughly 5.8 more rushes per game over 9 games and 53 more ypg son on average 9.13 ypc over those 5.8 rushes....I dont see your argument.

I'm not arguing anything here (there's nothing to argue, the original premise is sound). I was just digging deeper into the numbers. I didn't look any farther, and someone might want to, but how is the 3v3 4v4 5v5 match ups? Obviously CU kills their 1 and 2's if Sammy has more yards and TD's than their #1 guy. Maybe they just spread it around more? I dunno and don't have time to mess with it. I would guess the tigers would lead all the way down the depth charts.

To me, what's interesting is the 100+ extra plays that Clemson has run. I THINK it speaks to the fact that Clemson is more of a "hurry up" type offense where SC is a lets get a lead, kill the clock and hope our defense holds type of team.

The original premise "Pass first team vs Run first team.*** " isnt sound we've run more run plays than pass plays so it is NOT pass first. Also, Sammy has played 3 less games than the usuc wr's...which means with a little simple math you can confirm that he has been in for less pass plays than usuc receivers....your originaly premise is WRONG.

Conner Shaw is a HORRIBLE quarterback. Tajh Boyd is one of the top 10 in the country.

Clemson is a run first team too, we're just better at passing the ball.

Re: Just some perspective on Sammy's season

I think 5 1/2 games is generous. He was running a 102 fever at FSU and already losing the battle with the virus that kept him at home for BS. He was so weakened by that, he lost 10 lbs and was maybe 50% for GT. 4 games is a fairer number to measure his season stats by.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He had 5 1/2 games he accumulated stats in.

Nov 5, 2012, 5:05 PM

We'll just put it like that. I do agree with you, though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah but USuC plays in the SEC...........................

Nov 5, 2012, 5:03 PM

and the footballs are smaller, slicker and harder to catch in the toughest conference in the world.
