QBs and 2022 Season

Jan 7, 2022, 9:47 AM

I still see DJ as having a long way to go to get there. He made alot of progress in making reads but his decision making under pressure is still lacking and his passing accuracy hasn't seen much progress, if any.

Having said that I believe there are 2 scenarios for next season.

1. DJ finally settles in, can make the reads and throw the ball accurately enough, especially the long ball which has been absent this year and which is a must if you want to have a chance at the CFP.

2. Cade overtakes DJ and replaces him early in the season (like 2014 Deshawn replacing Cole).

This team is alot better than that 2014 team talent-wise, especially on defense, so it has alot more potential.

I think 2021 was a rebuilding year and the 2022 team can be special if the right things happen.

One thing I do have confidence in and that is the Swinney will in fact start the best QB he has rather than deferring to seniority.

You got that right. Leave it to Beaver(I mean Dabo) relax and we will see you at the spring game. We need at 60,000 at the spring game. Spread the word.

Cade will be the #1 QB after the Spring Game whether we are told or not, this kid is the best we’ve ever had by far!

I hope you are right, but ....????

After 2 once in a generation QB's I doubt it, besides weighing only 185, about the same wgt as DeShaun...so he can be built up like Watson. GO TIGERS.

I will be shocked if Cade takes over for DJ without DJ having a major regression or injury.

The WR group will be younger next year than they were this season.

The RB room will be made up of sophomores.

The OL is returning but is not exactly an iron wall to keep the QB safe just yet.

All in all, I don't expect the offensive staff to repeat what we saw in 2021 with a young QB who isn't quite ready to be the leader to everyone around him who desperately needs a leader.

Cade is talented but I don't expect him to be so much more talented and prepared than DJ to allow him to have the weight of the offense put on his shoulders.

Now if the position groups around the QB get it together, then there is a lot more of an open competition.

The move to Trevor took 4 games to decide even with a huge talent difference and all of the pieces around the QB being very settled and comfortable in their roles.

There is a lot more to it than just observing that Cade is more accurate and can run a little bit.

You’ll be shocked unless a new DJ comes out of the tunnel!

Maybe so and if me being shocked means that Cade is a gamechanger by August then sign me up to be happily wrong.

I'm hoping we saw the worst of DJ this season.

While I don't expect him to make huge strides and be a star next season, I think he will level off enough with his performance that his veteran presence will keep him in the starting role.

I am honestly trying to keep my expectations for Cade low.

I have bigger concerns at WR and Oline.....

Jan 7, 2022, 10:14 AM

doesn't matter who's throwing the ball

you gotta catch it
you gotta create separation
you gotta protect the QB/ball carrier (WR & Oline blocking)

Bingo feebo, you are spot on. Easy for people who stick their heads in the sand to blame the QB but last year was so unusual and hopefully we will never see injuries like we had.

I see Cade taking over in week four like DeShaun and Trevor. RB's will be solid. I would like to see one WR from the portal and I think the Collins twins with a full off season to prep will be solid along with Troy S. Would like to see us get at least one but prefer two interior OL guys from the portal. I think we are great at OT. I think with Pennington hopefully fully recovered will be a big push at guard. I still like Rayburn at center.

You left out senior Joe and junior EJ. These guys will have great seasons.

Cade better hope so because I can't see the coaches throwing a true freshman into the starting role early in the season with a crew of freshman and sophomores being the go-to guys in the WR and RB groups.

I hope so. Nagata has to beat the injury bug but is a great talent. Williams still needs to prove himself, I like him and hope he becomes what everyone thinks he will but I think the Collin's players will surpass Williams. Hope I am wrong because then we will have a huge WR room.
