I have been critical of Brad Brownell over the years...

Jan 26, 2022, 8:14 AM

so in the interest of fairness, I want to also give credit where I think credit is due.

Last night I though the team was well prepared and played pretty darn good. In fact, if they had consistently played that well all season, I firmly believe this team would most likely have five or six more wins and sitting firmly in the NCAAT discussions.

I don't believe in moral victories and I while am disappointed they couldn't pull-off the upset last night, I did think it was a really good team effort.

Games like last night are what feed the frustration with Coach Brownell and his tenure at Clemson. You are right, if the execution we saw last night was present every game, the Tigers could easily have 5-6 more wins. Unfortunately, the only consistent thing has been inconsistency. Let's hope last night was a sign of things to come going forward and not just a blip on the radar screen.

I agree totally. I like Coach Brownell, but does anyone here (or elsewhere) really think we had a chance to win that game with two minutes to go? I watched, but knew we were not going to win.

Classic Brownell... if only his teams could play well for more than 2-3 game stretches followed by 3-4 games of absolute crap....

I look at last night and say, how is this team only 11-9?

Team has had to evolve from the loss of Amir

Give Brownell credit for the development of mostly 2 star and 3 star with only one 4 star Ben Hall.
Unbelievable improvement in Tyson, Hall, Chase, and Hemingway. Guards need more consistency. Scott has been a great improvement over what we had at his position.

I agree. I really liked the game plan of having Hall pull Williams out of the paint to open things up.

They played great and gave it all they had. Losing sucks

but nothing to be ashamed of last night.

I have to agree, they looked good against Puke, and the Puke Refs last night. I think that maybe if the Refs would have stole one less turn over possessions from our guys, we probably win!!!

I hope the Clemson students will turn out in full force for the rematch with Duke coming up in a few more days. See if you can duplicate the atmosphere that was prominent in Durham last night. Let’s see how well the Blue Devils play ATCLEMSON!

Decent players can self motivate to play top name programs but a good coach gets them to play like that on a consistent basis. Yes, I’ve been critical of Brownell for years and will continue to believe he’s not head coach material.

Not sure you can give him credit for getting players to play better than expected. There are good assistance that could also be the reason. But one thing for sure, Brownell consistently puts out a mediocre team when all is said and done.

If mediocrity is all you want, Brownell is your guy. Of all years we have a chance to get into the ACC at a competitive level with a new head coach, this is the time.

Duke and UNC have new staff coming in. If Clemson is going to invest in basketball, now is the time to take a shot.
