I have a different opinion on Gilliam...

Mar 5, 2018, 7:47 AM

I think he was put in an uncomfortable spot in the 8th ,which he managed perfectly, came in in the 9th and should have had two outs. The boot at 2nd and the no call strike out changed the inning and he had to adjust how and whom he pitched to accordingly. He is a closer who pitched 2 innings Friday and 1 2/3 Sunday. He doesn't have the arsenal to deal with 8-10 batters, no closer does.

With that said I did feel like he was empty and should have been replaced after the walk. Not that he "blew the game" we just needed a fresh arm to deal with their lineup.

My take, we would have lost Sunday without Ryley. He didn't blow it Friday either. If Williams is playing closer to 1st the coot on 1st is out.

Gilliam is our closer. He does not need to pitch in the eighth. Griffith,Mitchell Miller or someone needs to become a competent set up man.

I'm waiting on Griffith to make that move. He's got the stuff, hopefully he steps up and shows his value. It could really help bridge the gap between the piggyback reliever to Gilliam in the 9th and not force Ryley to come in and pitch 2 innings or more.

You are definitely right about a lot of that but when a couple of things don’t go your way you still got to get out of it sometimes. It was really just that fastball to Tolbert that changed it all up, other than that he was ok. But ok won’t cut it, and he’s been ok for too long. Lots of baseball though and it’s just the beginning of his junior year

isn't a setup man and was put in a tough spot. Didn't help that our 2nd baseman made 2 errors, either, btw. Say what you want, but when Greene fell that was an error.

Carson Spiers should be the set up man no doubt.

Spiers, Griffith and both Miller’s. Mostly Ryan Miller
