Skins hotdogs?

You mean the most overrated restaurant there's ever been?
Skins isn't bad, but anyone with a $40 charcoal grill and a $5 pack of sausages from Walmart can make a better hotdog. It's not even close to the manna from heaven all the old farts in Greenville and Anderson liken it to.
Anyone remember Jugheads downtown? Now THAT was a great hotdog.

Overrated enough that I will put on my Clemson cap, shirt, shorts( khaki with the Tiger Paw),Fossil watch and Nike shoes and drive down to The Varsity ( in Atlanta or Athens) when Tech or UGA have a home game and Clemson is away) just to have two "dogs walking" ( with chili and onions) onion rings and P.C. over ice before driving across Anderson for two dogs, chips and a Yahoo.

Varsity has become - used to be cheap but no more.
I do wish Skin's had more sides than chips, etc. But I do love their hot dogs too.
I live in Atlanta so go to the Varsity regularly. But when I go "home" to Clemson I stop at Skins' every chance I get.

find a place that sells a decent hot dog around here other than maybe one place, Brooks Bros. Every other place is some souped up and loaded concoction of mess. Hot dogs are simple. But the most important aspect is the chili. And skins is on the money and i could eat 4 right now b/c i'm hungry as a mug. Unfortunately the closest Skins is on Pelham road and I probably won't do that.

My first Skins experience
Aug 11, 2021, 11:35 AM
|
|
I moved to Anderon 33 years ago from Chapel Hill. I know, blast away. Lol. Anyway , I walked into Skins and said “May I see a menu please?” The response was “you ain’t from around here are you?” Since then the Thrashers have become friends of ours. Good people.

My first Skin Thrasher experience happened in 1973. I worked at a bank in Anderson and everyone there raved about their hot dogs. On the way home I stopped by their original location in an Abney Mill Village to pick some up for supper. While sitting at the bar waiting for my order an older skinny employee from the mill across the street got his 3 dog order and a tall neck Old Milwaukee. He took a long swig of the beer and took a bottle of Tabasco and filled the bottle back up and finished his meal while I waited.....Most impressed with both the my first Skins dogs that day and that man's digestive expertise. I love the simplicity of their dogs..Reminds me of Dean's hot dogs in Greenwood during the 1950s and 60s..

Check out Holmes Hotdogs in Spartanburg. Best ones I have had in SC. Their fries are also good and they sell Cheerwine in glass bottles.

Skins is the best…

I grew up minutes away from the original location on the eastside of Anderson. They were a bit pricey the last time I went home but still as good as ever.
