this always enrages me some bum with a gun who just starts shooting. I swear people to day have no sense and it is all about them. score of stories of kids and innocents getting shot like this.
I'm not so much for gun control as clueless self absorbed control.

Add NC State to that list with 33. They are second behind Georgia State out of those three states.

As a way to make fun of your rival.
Maybe you need to take a step away from the football rivalry and focus on the fact we have a serious gun problem in this country.

violence, regardless of the venue.
I've lived in the Columbia area for over 40 years, and I know that many Clemson students have visited the Five Points area through the years, as many of us who have lived here have.
When the violence started, I attributed the problems to a lack of recognition by the city and the PD of the source. They wanted to blame underage drinking, while most knew it was the criminal elements going into Five Points looking for trouble.
My suggestion was for the SC administration and student government to issue an "Off Limits" warning, which would force the merchants and city into action. Now, it appears a concensus is building toward that type of leverage.
Simply, put even more police in the area and haul off the miscreants roaming the sidewalks. The police know d@mn well who they are and their intent.
Thus, in this matter reasonably thinking, law-abiding citizens, regardless of school affiliation, deplore the violence, offer deepest sympathies to victims, and say it's time the city and PD cleaned up the area...period!

I don't see where someone is making fun of USC. A young lady has been paralized because of some idiot who has been associated with crime in the past was on the streets. To many people are not where they are supposed or need to be, in jail. I feel for the young lady and her family. I wish her the best and a miracle and hopefully one day soon she can live a normal life.

from the real issue that the City of Columbia and the Five Point area in particular is a violence-ridden cesspool.
What's worse is the City and local law enforcement know that it's an issue but have done very little about it
If you don't think for one minute that is something parents should seriously consider when counseling their children and making decision about which colleges to attend, you either don't have children of your own and can't possibly understand, you are incredibly narrow-minded and misguided, or a combination of the two.

I am not making fun at all. I live near Columbia and this is a very serious situation.
As a parent I would not send my child to a school whose primary hangout is a very dangerous gang infested area.
When I want to "make fun" of South Carolina I have plenty of ammunition, such as fans (or worse graduates) like you that can't read.

in with SC people throughout the city...Five Points, Devine, the Vista, etc. Heck, I sued to see a good many Clemson students in Five Points during trips to Columbia, when I was a student in the 60's.
So, it's not just about the Gamecock crowd. Even if it was, most all of us would say the same: get the troublemakers out and protect our young folks. Enough of this violence from the low-lifes!

Hartins has a good idea. When I was stationed at what used to be Lowry AFB (near Denver), there were sections where we weren't allowed to go. It was a big training base with AF and Marines, meaning lots of folks willing to spend cash in the local leisure and entertainment industry. Unsurprisingly, local merchants and city council folks wanted that cash and worked hard to clean up some streets. I saw the same effort when I lived in Orlando. Local businesses effectively (and pretty much literally) blocked off the Paramour district from downtown. Now people visiting Disney or going to bowls, etc. will drop some $ on Orange Ave.
It sounds like the police are trying what they can, but if the local businesses think USuC's president will say something that might squash their wallet, you'll see some pretty definitive and effective collective action.
