I gotta tell yah! I got into the Bourbon tonight.

Sep 10, 2022, 2:51 AM

Wooooo!!!

Started with Blantons (2x), then had some Weller Full Proof, then Weller 12 year, then a Benchmark Full proof and finished with a nice big drink of Stagg Jr.

Let's bring on week 2!!

Cousins from south Texas are flying in this weekend

Sep 10, 2022, 5:46 AM

for a visit, and they're bringing Weller's.

Very popular there and darn sight cheaper than what I've found here.

One thing I never do around them is cut my whiskey with soda, water, etc. They call that "Sissy drinking!" It's straight up for them...lolololol.

My comworkers from Texas, I live in SC and Kentucky, call my pellet grill an “easy bake oven”. Gets the job done the same tbh, but they take pride in the little things there.

Whew!

Sep 10, 2022, 6:37 AM

Nice pour selection, but I'd have to spread that across three evenings, otherwise, I wouldn't remember the last three. Heck, I'd fall asleep before the last three...and I'm ok with that! :)

It’s always good to clean out your pipes. Have the rum ready for later today/tonight.

Sep 11, 2022, 1:00 AM

LOL. I had the fuzz for the first few hours today.

I remembered to chug a big water and brush my teeth before bed (those 2 things always helps). I woke up at 7am to take the dog out and took to 2 Tylenol and went back to bed. Got back up and 10am and was a little better.

Chik Fil A and a fountain coke for the rescue around noon.

Yeah, I'm def a Buffalo Trace fan!

I'm actually having dinner with Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley in 2 weeks at a restaurant here in Chattanooga. MY wife got me tickets for Some 6 course meal with 6 different bourbons with each pairing. I know Pappy will be 1 of the 6.

Honestly, pappy tastes no different than any high end bourbon, it’s just so rare and has name recognition. I can’t tell the difference tasting it and any high end bourbon with the same flavor profile. It’s all about the experience with others, that you share it with.

Re: Buffalo Trace thanks you for your support.***

Sep 22, 2022, 3:12 PM

You are correct, sir! I've paid big $$$ for a couple of shots of a couple of different Pappy's and while they were smooth to my taste, it wasn't much different than any other common whiskey like Gentleman Jack, etc. I am glad I didn't pay hundreds or thousands for bottles of the Pappy.

You gonna be awake by gametime?

Sep 10, 2022, 9:05 AM

:)

There's a bottle, on the dresser by your ring
And it's empty, so right now, I don't feel a thing.
I'll be hurtin', when I wake up on the floor,
But, I'll be over it, by noon...
That's the difference, between Whiskey and You.

-Chris Stapleton

That made me laugh out loud. That Chris Stapleton was a great songwriter before he hit it big as a singer-songwriter.

Just a suggestion but if you've never tried Rye you might be

Sep 11, 2022, 11:22 PM

surprised how much you like it .Rye was the whiskey George Washington distilled for his tavern in Alexandria Virginia .Cowboys who ordered whiskey in saloons in the late 1800s normally were ordering Rye . Bourbon didn't make it far beyond its'New Orleans / Mississippi River Valley base till after Prohibition.I first tried Rye a couple of years ago and started with Old Forester 100 Proof Rye.No reason to give up Bourbon but it's interesting to try the whiskey our ancestors drank .Old Forester is about average in the amount of Rye in it's mashbill ( 65 percent ) but it has a nice spicy kick and it shouldn't be too different for Bourbon drinkers .

I'm a fan of Old Forester

Sep 12, 2022, 4:09 PM

I like 1910 and 1920. I also have a bottle of their Single Barrell, which is pretty tough to get b/c they make so little.

Love OF and the 100 proof bourbon and rye are my go to's. Just recently moved from noth Ga to south Alabama the prices are higher down here. Also way too many NDP bottles on the shelf which are way over priced.

Sep 12, 2022, 4:46 PM [ in reply to I'm a fan of Old Forester ]

I'm still a rookie, so still have a lot to figure out, but Old Forester 1920 is my favorite to drink neat out of about a dozen our so American whiskeys/bourbons I've tried so far.

I'm planning to visit a friend in TN next month, so I will be checking the stores there and in Georgia for whiskeys that I cannot get here in VA.
