Amen to your comments. President Barker has done an outstanding job representing the "entire" University. Thanks to his efforts the drastic state of SC cuts have had minimal impact to the school. Job well done.

experiences and issues/praises for barker. We certainly all don't know the fact regarding everything he's done during his presidency.
He's been a great representative of the school and a decent prez, but some people CERTAINLY have justifiable reason to dislike him.

You know, that's the thing about Leadership, you are not going to be liked by everyone. Is he leaving the University in a better place than he found it, I would say so. I would venture to say that even the great Dr. Billy Graham had his detractors. It is a cliche, but "it can be lonely at the top."

I', referring to using questionable means to reach the goals that you have set. I certainly believe that Clemson is better off than they were before Barker. I'm just not a fan of how he went about some things. And other people closer to those situations may have similar sentiments.
My point is that's okay. Don't bash people because they aren't no-questions-asked barker fans and they don't think he's the best thing that ever happened to clemson.

you're clearly a knowledge person about what president barker has done for the university over the past 14 years, what with graduating 2 years ago...
please, tell me all the meetings you've had with him, the board or admin council that led you to your conclusions...
youre entitled to your uneducated opinions, but i can surely tell you President Barker is a remarkable human being and we're lucky enough to have had him for a decade and a half. He embraces the Clemson Family and has a strong passion for Clemson's success.

based purely popularity, image, and on irrational emotions. Barker is more a politician than a real leader. Two big scandals (slush fund & US News) and our athletics tanked under him!! But he looks the part and says all the right things. He looks good on the surface, but doesn't pass the sniff test if you look closer!!

like him. Clemson athletics fans who didn't go to CU have some misplaced hate but it never makes sense... He runs the UNIVERSITY. It was never and shouldn't be his job to get involved in what happens on the field unless you have UNC/Auburn levels of corruption in your athletic dep't.

anybody who denies this is a fool. TDP was the same thing at Oklahoma State. At OSU TDP hired a terrible candidate for their women's basketball team in exchange for a large donation. TDP was nothing more than a great fund raiser, he was more of a chief fundraiser than an athletic director.

Prez Barker. Compare the 14 years before him, and the 14 years of his tenure. Clemson's overall athletic program was a million times better in the 14 years before he became prez.

Clemson is out in the middle of nowhere, and if it wasn't for the non alums support of the university and the athletic program Clemson would not be what it is today. By the way you can be good at academics and athletics, which Clemson was before Prez Barker. Clemson has always been good academically. Only thing Prez Barker did was have an illegal slush fund and manipulated the unreliable US news and world report rankings. Keep on buying the Prez Barker propaganda. But among American College Academia, he is viewed as a manipulator and someone of questionable character. Take the Prez Barker tinted glasses off and you would see that.

To be AT ALL qualified to talk about Barker I think you need
Apr 16, 2013, 2:36 PM
|
|
to at least:
1) Have graduated from Clemson 2) Have experienced (through yourself or someone close to you) 2 or more Clemson presidents.
I started under RC Edwards, finished under Atchley. Both my daughters graduated under Barker. Since I graduated I have been a member of IPTAY and the Clemson Fund (Academics) and been to many many functions with each and every President.
RC Edwards, Walter Cox (temporary president) and Jim Barker and the ONLY men I have ever seen in that job that put Clemson first and were Clemson Men. Unfortunately the vast majority of college presidents are just looking for the next bigger job. We have been fortunate to have a few that actually cared about Clemson. This is a very sad day for our school.

Started and ended with Edwards....daughter with Deno and son with Barker. Hope we get a Clemson man because all the Clemson men have done great jobs. Walter Cox was what a Clemson man is all about. Barker was a great president for academics and athletics......Solid Orange!
