So... jounge advice needed.

Oct 8, 2015, 12:24 PM

I may or may not be getting fired over something silly. Long story short, I grabbed a buddies gym bag and threw it about halfway down the stairs after making sure nobody was on them. An upper manager, who I dont think likes me much as is, saw this and went off on me for workplace safety and how I created a unsafe work environment and he was going to talk to HR. My guess is he is going to push for me to be let go.

Now it has been in the works for several years that I am starting my won engineering consulting with my dad. It is already up and running a little but it going to really start going in November. I have been planning on leaving sometime around June 2016 after I take (and hopefully pass my PE exam). As I have gathered more information, I realized just recently that I could probably start in February 2016.

Now that this incident occurred (I havent heard anything from HR yet... YET.), I started looking at could I go ahead and start now. A buddy owns a construction company that I could work for for about half of what I make now. He would also be real flexible as far as if the engineering was come and go, he would let me have more or less hours. I would only need 16 hours of engineering work to cover all my expenses, so any extra work I do would be a bonus.

As Im sure y'all are getting tired of hearing, I have been saving up to pay off my house, so working construction only, saved money would last us 3 years.

I do not like my job and was quite honestly really getting excited as I started thinking through things. The wife is on board for whatever but of course is leaning towards the more conservative... stay if they let you. The only thing I would not like is, I like my lead and I know that it would put him in a bind if I left now (which may be out of my hands, but he said he would push to keep me). I moved to his group at the beginning of the year and told him that that is the only reason I am staying here was because I was working with him. We were buddies before he became my lead.

Anywho, what should I do Jounge. Go ahead and put in my 2 week notice, stay til February, stay til June... hookers and blow on the managers desk, crap on it without wiping and then set it on fire?

For realz answers appreciated.
Typical Joungey answers also appreciated.

Oh... and the dartboard, you better not say anything.

And others that might be on here.... you know who you are.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suggest staying and seeing if they do actually let you go.

Oct 8, 2015, 12:29 PM

I mean, going off to start your own business is a ridiculous excuse for your going in and shooting up the place with a cache of semi-automatic weapons.

g extra as I start studying for the PE. I could potentially be making conservatively 2 times more and more likely 3 times more if I get enough for full time. So taking their money really becomes a waste of my time. I would be losing money every hour here if that makes sense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well then why the hell are you even considering this?

And I just now started thinking about doing it this soon. Never considered it until this situation arose. Now I am trying to really think everything through pray about it and make sure I make the right decision instead of just shootin from the hip.

You can't really study for PE.

Have you already submitted all your references paperwork to take the PE?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was in a unique situation where the deadline

Oct 8, 2015, 12:41 PM

was prior to 4 years experience, but I would have 4 years experience before the test. I... basically applied for application and was awarded it. Meaning I am already scheduled to take the test. But just because you pass the test doesnt make you a PE... all the other stuff that you are talking about being approved along with passing is when they grant your PE status.

I talked with the board earlier about if consulting would count, they said yes as long as the company that I did consulting for could have a PE verify my work. Which it will.
