Shipley is a stud. Make no mistake, he’s the better back. Wouldn’t be shocked if he’s not the Trevor Lawrence of RB’s before he’s gone. Where it hurts is depth

Shipley is absolutely a stud.

But it's going to be hard for a running back to have the same overall effect on the team that a quarterback is.
That was my point. It wasn't a dig at Shipley at all.

I don't see a generational talent at QB on this team.

TL was the number 2 ranked QB in his class. Shipley is the number 2 RB in his class. Both were 5 stars.

while being a Heisman finalist, never losing a regular season game, winning a national championship, and being a #1 overall draft pick like Lawrence.
I think Shipley is going to be great, but expecting all of the above is unfair to him at this point.

Fair or not…

There are more similarities between TL and Shipley at this point in their careers than differences. Dude was being projected as an early draft pick… while still in high school.
“Owns a sturdy, filled out frame. Could add some more weight within his upper body at the next level, but likely isn't too far from his ideal size. Tests as a top athlete at running back, consistently running sub 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash in addition to strong track times. One of the most productive running backs in the 2021 cycle, leading his team to an undefeated season and state title as a junior. Breaks off long runs at a high rate, using his speed to get to the edge and pull away from defenses. Has good vision and effectively reads his blocks and finds daylight. Runs with physicality and shows the ability to break arm tackles at the second level. Embraces all aspects of the position and is a complete back. One of the more skilled pass catchers among backs in the 2021 cycle and is a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. Can continue to improve his body lean, lateral agility and wiggle as a runner. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Five level with the upside of developing into an early round NFL Draft pick.”

Travis Etienne couldn't run effectively behind this line last year. While Shipley looks like he's going to be a stud, who's ever won anything where the rb was your best player? And wasn't DJ the #1 or 2 (Bryce Young) 5-star recruit?

several times.
The point is, we just lost a Sr., who was’t even the best player on the team at his position when he left. In both instances, a highly regarded freshman who clearly had more upside, and was pushing for playing time, was waiting in the wings.

Agreed on Shipley.

But I don't think a running back can transform an offense like a generational QB like Lawrence did.
That's not a knock on Shipley. I just don't see a running back doing for us what Trevor did.

Demarkcus Bowman last year
Sep 20, 2021, 9:23 PM

Bowman transferred out after 2 games last season. He then signed with Florida. If interested in how he is doing there, he did not play for the Gators against Alabama.
Not really surprised about Dixon leaving Clemson at this point. The transfer portal just makes it too easy and enticing for bench riders.

the transfer portal makes it easy for kids to "quit" and take the easy way out, as opposed to working harder to win a job. While I get it that they all want to play to make the NFL, it gives you a glimpse into the kids competitive juices imo. One of my favorite stories about TL16 is that I think Dabo said he never once asked me about playing time during his recruitment

It's gotta be hard on one's ego to get yelled at by your coach on TV when you return to the sideline after losing 5 yards from being surrounded by a mob of defenders 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage as soon as you're handed the ball.
