teams missed the NCAA's from '82-'86.....honestly, until we can properly fund the program I don't see us getting back to being competitive in the ACC.

Yep. I am sure people whined but there was no medium to allow groups of whiners to whine together.

It’s a little harder to make a tourney with 36 teams than 64***

True, but he did make the CWS in '76, '77 and '80. Not to mention 11 conference championships.

People whine More in general about everything. My office manager today was whining about the line at Starbucks, I’m thinking just don’t go… People are just spoiled and lazy and whine about everything now

the Lunatic Fringe Clubhouse was built. I don't even think the land had been purchased. Also, Clemson fans were afraid of Wilhelm. Wilhelm did it his way, and he did not care what anybody else thought about how it did it.

Y'all do realize that only 36 teams got in during the early 80's on the years you're talking about.
We wouldn't have missed the 64. Clemson was that respected in the 80's.

I’m sure the OP probably knew that at some point but probably forgot. It pretty much is like comparing teams that made the NCAA Basketball Tourny back in the day when only Conference Champions went to the big dance.
The comparison really aren’t comparable at all due to Wilhelm had money in the bank as far as what he had done at Clemson. Monte doesn’t have anything to fall back on and is in the negative in his account after last year. Now if you made this argument about Jack back in 2015, it would have made more sense.
I still remember Wilhelm getting tossed in the ACC Tourny in Greenville against Ga.Tech back in the early 90’s, walking to the outfield fence and some Clemson fan brought him a folding chair to watch the rest of the game through a opening in the wall.

As a university we have had a great run in football. As much as I hate to admit this, I think we were satisfied by our success in those sports. Our name has elevated our status in the world now. It is disappointing to see our baseball team struggle and basketball team constantly underachieve. I just feel like the success in football makes other sports shortcomings less bearable.
