Ethics Question

May 9, 2022, 12:23 PM

A friend of mine told me his country club was offering a “Try and Buy” deal for new members. Sign up now, get your first two months of membership with no dues. After that, you can quit or start paying. They apparently don’t do background or credit checks and will take the existing nominating member’s word for it so there is really no barrier to entry for me.

I’m not asking if it’s OK to join knowing that I’ll quit as soon as I have to start paying dues. We are past that. I signed up last week.

The club has a big member-member tournament coming up and they are once again taking my word and the word of my friend regarding my handicap since I am new and haven’t played with anyone yet. In reality, I’m about a four but told them I’m a nine.

I’m not asking if it’s OK to lie about my handicap in an effort to fleece these rich county club dorks out of some big time cash. We are already signed up and they are letting me play as a nine.

My question is twofold. First, should I quit in two months after winning ~10K or should I stick around and pay for a few months and win the member-guest tournament as well? I won three last year and have been asked not to return to any of them. They are a lot of fun and I’m running out of places to play.

As for my second question, I have a history with the new wife of one of the big wigs at the club. Do I just let that slide and pretend it never happened or do I use it to my advantage in the tournament by telling him (and anyone else within earshot) about the things his precious Wendy and I used to do to each other? He’s a really good golfer and I think we should beat them easily if I get him all twisted out of sorts.

Love the pump and dump theory.

The tactics on inflating the handicap may not work...ours are tied to the GHIN number. So unless you've posted some fake scores to inflate it, they'll see whatever USGA has assigned you as a handicap.

My handicap doubled since having the baby, and we're now smoking the old timers in tourney play. Very solid tactic.

See if the husband is into the new hotwife lifestyles. Propose the arrangement on #1's tee box after you stroke one bout tree fiddy down the middle.

maybe tee up the proposition with what type of camera he has? Don't wanna share videos w/ the jounge unless they're 4k...

One of the courses that won’t let me come back got their panties in a wad because we won while I was playing with brand new balls I took from the driving range while warming up. You don’t clean ‘em if you don’t pay for them. Just toss it in the bushes when it gets dirty and pull out a new one.

I honestly thought they were gifts as part of the entrance fee. I mean, who puts out brand new TaylorMade TP5’s and doesn’t expect people to keep them?

Look, I know zilch about golf and even less about ethics

so please to be poasting pigs of Wendy's hangers in here.

I don’t know much about golf besides watching big tournaments.

May 9, 2022, 1:11 PM

But it seems like the handicap strokes are pure ######## in a sport. What other sport gives a worse player a handicap to then beat the better player???

That’s like saying a kids soccer team hasn’t played as well so they start the game at 2-0 since the other team is clearly better…

Oh wait that bc golf isn’t a real sport. I almost forgot. Bunch of old fat guys hitting a ball on some grass.

It's a leisure activity.

Anything you can drink beer with while doing it is a leisure activity. Tried that with basketball once. Did not turn out well.

That’s the beauty of it.

I get to show up, six pack for front nine stuffed in my golf bag after a long night of partying and get to play against a guy that doesn’t drink, practices at least two hours a day, eats right, exercises, stretches (my favorite, LOL) and spends his money on new clubs every year.

It wouldn’t be fair for him to beat my by 16 strokes and take my money. The handicap system was designed to right this injustice and give guys like me the upper hand because guys like my opponent take pride in having a low handicap that they can’t play to while guys like me blow the #### up to get more strokes.

How can anyone not like that?

Just read the TMail. That’s awesome, count me in. I never thought I’d ever get a chance to play that course, yet alone play in their MG. You must be a pretty important dude. Let me know what you want my handicap to be coming into the event.

understand what your question is about ethnics.

Re: That was a long-winded explanation and I still don't

May 9, 2022, 2:29 PM

There really isn’t a question. I was just looking for an excuse to let everyone know I get to play in a fancy golf tournament against I guy who recently married a girl I once had sex with in the bathroom at Kangaroo Jax during her nieces birthday party.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So...

May 9, 2022, 2:49 PM

is it the guy or his wife that is ethnic?

I'M SO CONFUSED.

Electric or gas carts ??

Re: Need more info ...

May 9, 2022, 3:42 PM

Electric. This place is really fancy. They have like six different brands of vodka at the bar and don’t let you where cargo shorts on the golf course.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suppose you don't have a handicap card....

May 9, 2022, 6:11 PM

because not a SCGA member? They will figure out your handicap sooner or later. If you're OK with the "nine" who cares?
