I do NOT want a “goon” Basketball Program

Mar 20, 2021, 10:30 AM

Did y’all see Izzo shove and “get into it” with one of his players ? How many times have we heard about payoffs, ho’s and cars to players to play for a school ? How many teams look like the squad is on work release ? One thing Coach B has is class, and he brings class to the program.

Only thing I would suggest is Clemson hire an Offense Coordinator, the Leonard Hamilton model that FSU has.

Coach B KNOWS Defense, he KNOWS Grand Strategery (ie the X and O thing). He just needs a guy on staff who knows what guy where and when ... or when to implement a certain type of attack.

Again I reference FSU, Duke, Va, etc they all do that.

Who would be a good Offense Coordinator ? Make them an offer they can’t refuse.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Us getting open shots was not the issue. We just didn’t knock them down.

Are there any good shooting coaches out there?

Excuses

Mar 20, 2021, 10:54 AM

Before the Dabo era, I heard so many excuses as to why Clemson football will never win another national title, from it's a small school to it's not "hip" enough for today's athletes and everything in between.

I remember how difficult it was for the Clemson administration to get rid of bowden, smith (women's basketball) and other coaches.

I can appreciate loyalty, but I can't understand how it seems we sacrifice finding something better because we are so loyal to coaches who can just and leave any time they want.

Now we seem to be in the same predicament with brownell. I supported brownell for the first 10 years, but enough is enough. We need to show that we're serious about having a competitive basketball program. I think that should be enough time to figure out whether most coaches are the right fit or not.

And yes, I definitely want a coach who can run a clean program.

As far as I know, Dabo has had a clean program (and win games too).

Why can't we do this in basketball?

He doesn't know, "Grand Stratergy"

Mar 20, 2021, 10:58 AM

Otherwise we would win more.

Grand Statergy wouldn't choke and have players tight as a drum with the game on the line. Seen enough of losing games we should win.

I think he DOES know overall game plan (strategery) but its the TACTICAL that is weak. Much like a General has an overall battle plan, but its the Colonels and below that make tactical decisions as the "battle" unfolds ie you private, attack that machine gun nest ! I guess its called "making adjustments" depending on the situation.

Forgot to mention, we are always lacking on "crashing the boards" and "following the shot" do not know what ever happened to the fundamental philosophy that was drilled in my head anyway. KJ McDaniels was real good at that.

I can understand trying to prevent the fast break, but we covered that by having one or two guards hanging back ... game has changed.

Would like to see a better recruiter and evaluator of basketball skills.

You lost me. On literally everything you said.

So in order to have a winning program, it necessitates that we will be dirty? Dabo says hello.

BB knows “grand strategery”? Bull butter. My sons rec league coach knows more about offensive rebounding than BB.

An offensive coordinator will not mitigate BB’s lack of ability to manage a game and recruit better players.

What Brad Brownell needs is to collect his last check and go do color commentary, ala Tommy Bowden.

Brad clearly thinks he has offense figured out.

It’s pretty simple:

1. If you’re not great at shooting 3s, the other team will leave you wide open.

2. Tell the guys they can launch open 3s.

3. When you don’t make enough of the 3s to win the game, you just blame it on the fellas for missing open shots.

4. Collect that fat salary.

5. Repeat.

I could not have said it better Brad needs to get out of the offense business and not let his defensive philosophy keep us from rebounding and getting on the boards there are always a few exceptions such as the fast break run and gun teams If I’m D-RAD I would demand it for him to return If not we gonna continue to underperform on offense and not come up with enough points to win Losing close does not help the pain

Seems we have no offensive identity we look like a different offense each game kids got to know where to go and what to do to have confidence in themselves and know where teammates are gonna be if in trouble If our 3s are falling we ok but if not we dead in the water the best teams get on the board and fight for rebounds and tip ins Our philosophy is throw up a shot and then everybody run back to play defense and let them have it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i agree ... I do not get the heave a brick and run away ...

Mar 20, 2021, 2:59 PM

philosophy ... again, follow the dang shot

We don’t have a goon program We have a one and done program if we lucky after 11 years to make the NCCA tournament 3 times
