Syracuse classless fans

Oct 6, 2013, 9:58 PM

Just got back from my visit to the Dome and wanted to share my thoughts about my experience.

Started off with a crappy experience trying to find a parking spot. Lots of driving nowhere in traffic and no public lots to be found anywhere. Ended up illegally parking on the street and missing the opening kick-off. At least I didn't get a ticket or get towed.

But before that, we ended up driving past Frat row, sitting in traffic and getting flipped off and cussed out by the Frat boys (had my CU car flag prominently displayed) in front of my 12 year old son. Then they decided to throw a half-empty beer can at our car. Drunk 20 year old Frat boys trying to fit it with their buddies, how pathetic.

But probably the worst lack of class that I witnessed was the "let's beat them up" chant started by the Cuse fans when Boulware got hurt. These classless fans were in the very last rows behind the Clemson section...the same seats that sold for $15 bucks as a last ditch desperate attempt by the Syracuse AD to reach a sell-out. Biggest crowd in 10 years in the Dome, what a f'in joke.

I guess we have a qualified replacement for the Maryland fans after they leave the conference this year.

syracuse fans.

I had a great time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ditto for me. No problems parking, met some good cuse fans

While tailgating, invited them to come down our way next year. Heard a few "negative" comments, mostly from teenage boys. Overall great experience for my family.

B-wiz....I don't doubt you, but I just had a miserable experience. I won't be going back for any Clemson games. We did get a nice comment from one of the Cuse band members leaving the game as he wished us a good season. I did think that kid had some class.

And I'm not saying we don't have some drunk fans that cross the line. I was just expecting a better experience than what I experienced.

conflicting stories by travelers so far. similar to NCSU

guess there's good & bad fans everywhere...but the negative tails have sounded horrid!

throwing stuff at a car & ripping off car-flags & whatnot is way over-the-line...get ya shot too if not careful, lol.

Don't get why other teams fans seem to do these offensive things so commonly, but I'd be embarrassed & confront one of our own if I ever witnessed something like that!

Glad I haven't seen it from our people...SOLID ORANGE TIGER PRIDE!!!

What game were you at?

Oct 6, 2013, 10:19 PM

No way those were Cuse fans. All the people I met were awesome, I could write a book on how awesome that fanbase is. Seriously the nicest and most welcoming fanbase I've seen.

Anybody else sitting in section 316 hear the "let's beat them up" chant when Boulware got hurt? Seems like everybody else think these Cuse fans are angels.

In 313 we were told that they would cheer for our....

Just wait until the trip to Athens next year

Oct 6, 2013, 10:24 PM

That's where you will see a lot of classless fans because they just don't know any better. That's the SEC way.

Anybody that thinks Syracuse is bad please don't go within

Oct 6, 2013, 11:17 PM

10 miles of Athens.

Were you expecting a warm reception

Oct 6, 2013, 10:26 PM

from another school's frat boys? Drunk students are gonna treat you like trash at any school, and all schools have good and bad fans. At least the game was a good one to see.

at our beloved Clemson.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes I heard them say that in 316

Oct 6, 2013, 10:26 PM

Those fans were the only rude ones I encountered though. BTW, those fans in 316 were also yelling "Clemson sucks!" the whole game.

Oct 6, 2013, 10:37 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Nothing more original than "your teams sucks" chant.

It's funny. I lived in Albany (2hrs away) for 18 years and

Oct 6, 2013, 11:50 PM

never met a Syracuse fan or saw anyone wearing their clothing or sporting any decals on their cars. I think their fanbase is pretty much centralized in Syracuse. Syracuse is so far away from any other major colleges that they don't have any natural rivals in football. Because of this I think they have a take it or leave it attitude.

They are more passionate about basketball but I still didn't see any evidence of fans until tournament time when a few people I knew would jump on their bandwagon. But even then they weren't very vocal.

Even the local Albany media did not report much on their athletics. College sports conversation in general is non existent in the northeast.

A few of my friends would try to show some interest only because they knew I went to Clemson and was a big fan. But the conversation didn't last very long because they had no dog in the fight. Even in Boston no one gives a crap about Boston College.

So glad to be back in the south.

My .02

Oct 7, 2013, 12:00 AM

I give my opinion on how they were as I wasn't at the game, but I have had experience with them before. My dad is Kansas fan, and in 2003 when the final 4 was in New Orleans(we have lived in louisiana now for 13 years) we of course went. Well it was Syracuse marquette Kansas and Texas. Cuse an Texas played first and during that game their fans were rather rude and inappropriate. I was 14 at the time but I remember clear as day, them screaming profanity laced chants during the game. Well Cuse beat texas and ku beat Marquette so for the nc game after Kansas lost an we left, we were taunted and yelled at as we were leaving the SuperDome. Ever since then my dad and I have had bad taste about Cuse and their fans. He is not a clemson fan by any means but he even texted me during the game Saturday telling me he was glad they were whipping their classless #####. Their head coach doesn't help change my opinion bait them either now. Can't imagine how he will react when they play FSU and ol jimbo leaves his starters out there throwing bombs in the 4 quarter.

Re: Syracuse classless fans

Every fan base have those fans that give us a bad name . I have met some great fans at clemson games that were the nicest people I would ever want to meet. Then I have met some that were awful (cussing throwing beer at us). But that happens with every team even ours. We hate it when we hear the stories but we hope for better next time and go back again and again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have to agree with the Nole fan on this

Oct 7, 2013, 9:06 AM

one as much as I hate to. ;) Every school has those, "few bad apples that spoil the bunch", obviously some more than others. So, a few classless fans is to be expected anywhere you go, but we can't call an entire fan-base classless over the actions of a few. Happened to me in Tallahassee last year....had a great time with most of the Nole fans, but as is usually the case, some drunk frat boys decided to....well....act like dunk frat boys.

as much as I hate to say it, I saw more if our Clemson fans acting up than Syracuse fans and I wasn't even in the visitor section.

Re: Syracuse classless fans

I was in section 316 row J and did not hear anything bad from any fan. Not saying it did not occur but I did not hear it. The major cause of this problem can be alcohol which should not be served at NCAA events. I love beer and wine but it has no place in NCAA sponsored events period.

As proof my wife and I were in a minor accident leaving Sky Top parking. A guy tried to pass on the lane closest to the fence on the right, hit the gate fence and fishtailed into her brand new car. Thank God we were not hurt. This older bozo got out and he and his wife told my wife "their car lost its brakes". Yea! Right. I observed the guy and something was amiss maybe booze or a mental thing or whatever. I told my wife to deal with them because if he popped off at me I'd lay him out on the spot! I personally believe he was boozed up but was in no position to prove it. I'm just happy that we were not hurt, other than shaken up,but it did ruin a perfect day for ardent Tiger fans.
Our experience at the game itself was fine but the incident post game certainly tainted our view.
