Hope he gets good advise as to where he fits and can shine early. Sign a 1 yr deal and make them pay. NFL WR’s are the money shot now.

Not surprising. No doubt he would have benefitted from

coming back and having a productive, injury free season. I Never understood his leaving this year.

Yep. He’ll have to make it the hard way.

If Justyn get a free agent deal, no doubt he will make it, but it will be for cheap, probably the biggest best deal the team he plays for could have ever gotten. Justyn is as talented as any of the other great receivers we've had at Clemson. DJ stunk it up really bad last season, and that tied Elliott's hands in passing game play calling, but Justyn will make it, and he will play in the NFL, but without the draft money!!!

Ever thought maybe he left because he didn’t have a QB who can’t deliver him he ball?

Neither did I, and I honestly thought that what happened in the draft, was going to happen bc his stats from year 1, and 2 took a drastic dive coming back from his year off surgery. I believe the huge dive in his stats were mostly bc Tony Elliott was afraid to use DJ the same way as Trevor was used, and from the way that DJ performed last season, Elliott's hand were tied with the pass plays he could call with DJ behind center.

Justyn really needed to come back this next season to prove himself, and the NFL really needed to see that. And if he had come back, I believe he would've had the season close to his 1st two seasons, especially with Klubnik hoovering right behind DJ, and chopping at the bits ready to take the starting position as soon as DJ hiccups, and if DJ don't have that major hiccup, that will mean that he got it together, and is playing the way that he showed he could against BC, and ND. But if he did stink, there was Klubnik, and that kid can sling it with accuracy!!!

Justyn would have done well to have come back for another year. He hasn’t played a complete season since his freshman year so the pros didn’t have a good picture of what he may be able to do. I am certainly no expert on the draft, but it wasn’t hard to see this coming.

So many could have benefited from their senior season. This is the latest example.

Sorta shocked about this. He’s going to get his shot in the NFL. I pray that he stays healthy. Still one of my all time favorite receivers to watch. I’ve had fusion in my neck also. Rooting for you Justin.

I predicted he'd be a UFA when he announced he was leaving. If people would take off their Clemson orange glasses they'd see that he was pretty bad last season. Add in that he tested horribly and you've got a guy nobody wanted to draft. Could he recover and make a team somewhere? Sure, but usually the end of the bench WRs are expected to play on special teams and I don't think that's something he can do either. Hope he proves me wrong and catches on somewhere.

A new rule allows I drafted players to return to college …

Apr 30, 2022, 8:02 PM

… is this something Justin should do? Did Dabo hold a scholarship in case he decided to return?

It might make sense, but that also carries a risk.

I think he might stick to a team that brings him into camp. Could be the steal of the draft.

Either way… good luck Justin!!

First I've heard of this, definitely something to consider for these kids.

Oops … I didn’t realize that rule only applies to the NBA for now

Apr 30, 2022, 8:09 PM

… my bad…

However, I think it should apply to ANY sport

I think that is a fantastic idea.

If these young folks can transfer in and out of any school, why not be able to transfer back into school? The NCAA should be 100% supportive of this if their goal is to reinforce graduation, student productivity, etc.

Heck even slimeball MLB pays kids $5M to go to school and sit tight.

I saw Ross at a Dabo camp the summer before his freshman season. He was an absolute physical specimen as a true freshman. He definitely busted on the pro day with his 40 and was disinterested in trying to find what area code DJ was throwing to. Made no sense for him to come back for another year of that. He will catch on with a team and will be nearly full strength by September. After that he will start shoving DBs around again and hopefully gain the trust of some starting QB like big Mike and Tee have done.

The problem with that assumption is that we don't know if his back will ever be truly 100%. It was a massive surgery. The NFL is far, far more brutal than what he faced at any point this year (and he played very scared and gingerly throughout much of the season). It's just as likely for him to not be able to make it in the League. He might only get one contract in the league, and by going early after a terrible season, he's going to get a very small guaranteed contract.

I Can Understand Justyn Ross' Situation

May 1, 2022, 6:05 AM

However, I cannot believe that NFL teams passed up on Nolan Turner. If you rewatch every game he has been in, he's a dynamic defensive player. He has many interceptions, pass break ups and great tackling in open space. I hope all of these young men go to the NFL as free agents and destroy the competition. Especially Nolan Turner, who in my opinion is like the Hunter Renfrow of the Defense.

Lmao! Good grief…Wth were you watching?

Turner, like 99% of this board and fan base predicted, went undrafted because he’s a liability as a football player. He’s a great kid and has some athleticism but he will not start a game in the NFL and honestly won’t make it out of camp.

Big difference: offense vs defense.

Renfro may be just as undersized as Turner, but the offense picks the mismatch, not the other way around. So the Raiders can choose where and how to use their little guy with great hands, acceleration and cutting ability.

Turner physically is a mismatch waiting to happen. He is an excellent college player who has progressed every year to the second-highest level in his sport. But he is too short, slow and small to play in the NFL, and he doesn't tackle as well as you think he does against elite talent--and every player in the NFL is elite talent.

It doesn't matter how well he reads the play if he is too small to make it or too slow to reach the spot before the receiver.

I'll always be thankful he balled out as a Tiger, but unless someone signs him to a contract in an overachievers league, he is done.

Re: I Can Understand Justyn Ross' Situation

May 2, 2022, 12:47 AM [ in reply to I Can Understand Justyn Ross' Situation ]

I guess we watched two different players. Turner didn't have any of the athleticism needed to be a professional defensive player. He was a major liability defensively for two years and was repeatedly humiliated by elite receivers. He was decently fast in a straight line but his hips are horrible and he was terrible at taking angles to the football. He also was not that elite of a player. When you see a free safety who's called a great tackler, they hit someone and that someone goes down instantly. He has to drag them down because he doesn't have the strength of an elite hitter.

There's a reason almost every draft analyst had him as undrafted and the most positive one I've seen had him as a special teams player. He's almost certainly getting cut in Spring camp.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No one that actually saw him play this year is surprised by this.

May 1, 2022, 10:42 AM

He was an absolute freak his freshman year. This year he looked tentative, did not give 100% effort, and just wasn't himself. I would have been the same way post surgery... so this is in no way a knock on him. He really needed to comeback a year and prove he could still be the freak from freshman year.
