The political aspect is that typical measures to stop crimes-in-action which are committed by people of color are less vigorous than the typical measures used to stop similar crimes that are committed by white people.
Police first observe the racial demographic of the robbers, and then adjust their tactics accordingly.
Unequal justice under the law is a political matter.

other progressive policies that very predictably result in higher crime rates. People don't think the 'defend the police' movement be like it be but it do. They won in a lot of cases, and the community is paying the price. Even locally you'll probably find a reluctance to prosecute repeat criminals these days.
They will, however, hate f*ck an otherwise upstanding, tax paying citizen for relatively minor infractions.

no consequences. A lot of these kids aren't really kids in the sense that you or I think about, anyway. They might as well be 30, they've been committing crimes violent or otherwise for years by the time they're 15 or 16.
Law enforcement everywhere is basically taking a hands off approach to it too, you don't have to be in a liberal area to be impacted. Of course, when you know they'll be back on the street in less than 8 hours there's not a whole lot of incentive to make arrests in the first place.

There’s a well documented trend of cops leaving the workforce well before typical retirement age at this point, as well as a shortage of officers due to lack of perceived support from higher-ups in city govt as well as risk-vs-reward of doing one’s job in the current climate. motivated. Dems embraced the idea that the police were hunting down people of color - because their base depends on that demographic. The backlash made police either quit or hesitant (replacing the word afraid) to do their jobs. Dems pushed bail reform (I agree it needs to be reformed, but not to the point of eliminating it) - so now folks know they are less likely to go to jail if they bust up a WaWa.
The story originally caught my eye because the police were there and stood and watched. That wouldn't have happened 3 years ago. And yes - part of the reason has to do with politics.

Unequal enforcement of the law is a political matter. That is what the original post is about.
Obama's push in 2015 for more equality as far as the incarceration rates for whites vs. blacks was political. It had nothing to do with the nature of the crime being committed by the perpetrator.
Obama's politically motivated action has contributed to the unequal enforcement of law in the USA today.

Obama contributed to politicizing the crime / law enforcement problem, but he wasn't (and still isn't) the only factor as to why this post is political.
But to you and anyone else who questions whether / how this topic has political aspects, can a reasonable argument be made that Obama's involvement did not impart a political component to this?
