Re: Sports Illustrated has hit a new low with this week's cover

Jul 1, 2016, 1:50 AM

Throughout his life, Jenner must have felt a lot of pain, discomfort and confusion. It stinks he had to go through that, and I'm happy he's transitioned and (hopefully) feels more comfortable in his own skin...however I've definitely grown nauseous of the insane level of media coverage this has gotten, and throwing around the term "hero" definitely seems misplaced. It's fine to celebrate it and feel happy for him, but giving him/her a Courage Award over a girl with terminal brain cancer, who used her position and short-lived media exposure to raise millions for medical research, is embarrassing. The discomfort Jenner felt throughout life doesn't compare to the fact that this other girl would never have the chance to have a family, and only had a short period of time on this Earth. Despite living with a death-sentence, she did her best to selflessly raise money in hopes that others in the future may be given a chance to heal from something she, and millions of others, couldn't.

On the flip side, people who are complaining about how "sick" this is, and say "I have to explain this to my kids" are just as bad. Nobody cares about your stupid kids and what you have to discuss with them. While the media coverage can be overwhelming, the actual act of transitioning and people living as transgenders has no affect on your life. It's 99% related to religion, and it's ironic that these people would raise arms to rebel against the government if they were told they were no longer allowed to practice their religion, but feel no guilt or sense of wrongdoing by telling others they shouldn't be able to live their lives how they want to.

Jul 1, 2016, 9:21 AM

Funny how none of us who hung out together had a problem with that. He was a pretty awesome person actually. He is a highly religious like many of you and volunteers with his church regularly.

But to hear stories about others who didn't accept him and what they did were appalling. You sir, are obviously unable to empathize. I wonder how your messiah views this?

I guess I need an explanation

Jul 1, 2016, 9:13 PM

because I want to make sure I don't misunderstand you. You're saying that Jenner doesn't need to be glorified, is that it?

He was given an award for being a courageous ex-athlete and coming out for the transgender community.

If I am correct in my assumption, how does that not warrant glory?

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We all have birth defects.

Jul 2, 2016, 7:23 AM

Having a surgery to try attempt to repair a birth defect does not warrant glorification. Announcing a birth defect merits empathy. Having it repaired is natural, normal and typical not special.

What is Jenner's sacrifice? His good name? Not to me, I always respected him. His virtue? I haven't judged or faulted an individual for a birth defect in my entire life.

Is this some type of 'coming out?' You think it's virtuous to 'come out.' I think it's cowardly to cover what and who you are. Coming out is the norm now, not the exception.

He claims to still 'like girls.' What's up with that? Somebody explain why anyone thinks that's special. Someone tell me what's so special about a woman who likes girls.

Winning gold in 1976 was special. Coming out in this day and age is normal. Coming out in 1976 would have been special. He would have sacrificed a fortune for the persecution he/she'd have suffered then. I think he/she is grandstanding and most Americas are afraid to be called a 'homophobe,' if they voice that opinion.

I don't always say what sounds good and that which everybody agrees but I always convey my personal beliefs which I consider to be truth relative to my understanding.

Re: We all have birth defects.

Jul 2, 2016, 10:24 AM

This is what I guess I don't like - your RELIGIOUS beliefs make you intolerable to transgenders and the sale of alcohol at DV (in a prior post).

You need to understand that personal religious beliefs are just that - PERSONAL. It' fine to believe whatever you want but imposing those beliefs on others is not cool.

In countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE have laws like that (including banning alcohol sales). I feel for those there who aren't Muslim.

Some of this posts on TN remind me that we have a ways to go, especially in my beloved South, with respect to tolerance. I hope your preachers get this word out to you.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My religious belief is that I must love everyone.

Jul 2, 2016, 10:49 AM [ in reply to Re: We all have birth defects. ]

If there's something wrong with that then we have a fundamental issue.

I have no condemnation for others because of what they drink, smoke, snort or what gender they prefer for marriage. Actually my definition of marriage doesn't include any governments' intervention. How much more plainly can I say that?

My tolerance for the fundamental beliefs of the general public and especially the parents of our players and prospective recruits is my motivation toward resisting Clemson being in the alcohol business.

Why is it that you have such tolerance in some areas yet find it impossible to consider the values that parents of our players and prospects? Am I more tolerant than you?

It's not my place to judge or try and make other adhere to my personal understanding. I'm nothing like Christ. I'm not filled with self righteousness and I don't Bible thump.

Are you not thumping your 'bible,' at me, accusing me of injecting my special form of beliefs on others? It does you no harm to not be able to buy beer from Clemson University but it certainly may change things if Clemson decides to involve itself in the sale of alcohol.
