Work to get this condition remedied and his A1C and all other metrics are better than norms for a 40 year old. The drug industry will try to keep you on their products even after you have modified lifestyle.

Absolutely. Most people just don't want to do the work.

They would rather keep on keeping on with their crappy lifestyle, and just take a pill.

including fruit, no potatoes, rice, or bread, no alcohol, and exercise every day, I can get my A1c just under the limit. I have almost decided it's not worth it. Simply cutting back on carbs and sugar plus regular exercise keeps me over the line. That's while taking the smallest dose of Metformin. I expect doc will increase dosage next visit.

With the idea that if you can do the lifestyle stuff to reverse it you’ll be a million times better off… It’s definitely quite reversible though it could be challenging work depending on your particular situation

I hope that what you are saying is true? I am on Metformin myself and if it helps with anti-aging lets up the prescription!!

improve circulation with cardio

Aug 16, 2022, 1:16 PM

If you can not Jog, I would get a stationary Bike, also Squats without weights do wonders, the idea is to do 3 reps of 30 a day to improve circulation in your legs and take the strain off of your heart. You should feel your calves and shins burning if you are doing them properly.

Hang in there. At age 50, I finally learned what to eat, and as importantly, what NOT to eat. It was difficult, but over time lost over 100 lbs, dropped my A1c from the 7 to 8 range (with medications) to the high 5's to low 6's and got off all my diabetic medications (I was taking 3, included metformin, and the weekly shots).

Keto, and most importantly self-control in eating, worked for me. My A1c might creep up in the mid to high 6 range from time to time, but I can get back to eating healthier and lower it when I need to. Of course, that takes months, but it sure beats the alternative which was likely dying at a much earlier age.

I went from a 12+ A1C and a 340+ daily blood sugar to a 5.5 A1C and a 120-150 daily blood sugar, all over a 5 year span. I have Muscular Dystrophy and am confined to a bed/wheelchair so the physical exercise is not an option.

I take a once a week injection (Ozempic) and simply made a few changes. Cut back on bread and sweets and gave up soft drinks and, gulp, sweet tea. Took me awhile but I made it!

My dad died at 56 with diabetes related problems. It runs heavily on my dad’s side of the family but not on my mom’s side. I just assumed I would have it because of genetics but my doctor said that’s not necessarily so. I’m taking Metformin and have for awhile. My doctor just changed my meds to 1 Metformin a day instead of 2 pills and put me on another medication of which I don’t recall the name ? of course I love sugar so that sucks. I don’t eat carbs that much so that isn’t as hard to do without. The main goal is to keep your A1C below 7 if nothing else. If you can do that it’s considered managing and keeping your diabetes under control.
