I think it is a sad day for him. I have never heard exactly what he did,but I assume he was upset by something his child had done and just lost it for a moment. If you have ever been in that position you can sympathize with him. I am sure he regrets his actions.

Agreed

I hate to see him go.

Don't take it so personal

As an outsider looking in, from what little I know, the soccer program has been in the tank for a long time. From a won loss standpoint, the program needs a change and a new shot in the arm. Change we can finally believe in.

While I realize its just business and the win/loss ratio had declined..the program still was not very far off from where it was back in 2005 when they made the College Cup. It's just a very tough conference that can put a new #1 team up in the country each week (between Maryland, Wake, Duke, Virginia, Clemson, UNC, even FSU at times)..but if you have a subpar team..aka not top 20..it gets greatly magnified. And thats also evidenced by us having a very middle of the road ACC team a couple years ago and made the tournament as a solid seed I believe.

Either way a change of pace might be whats needed to kick start the program..but we did lose one of the top 3 coaches at the school today

Trevor was and is what College soccer is all about. He shaped these kids into high level athletes, but he also helped them to become Great role models and citizens. I think it is much more important to the image of the University to have these Great Kids who give so much back to the community and local soccer programs than to be #1 with spiteful selfish players. Trevor and Jody are incredible people who have built a one of a kind program at Clemson-A True Family! This is a sad day in Clemson sports!

HUGE mistake by our AD.

Jun 17, 2009, 12:07 AM [ in reply to Re: Clemson Soccer ]

as much as I love my alma mater, it seems that mistakes like these are made relatively often. Coach Ford, Coach Davis, Coach Pollock and now Coach Adair. Wow, the last three have been made in a relative short amount of time. How did that change in direction for women's basketball work out????

It will be seen as an even bigger mistake when all is said and done. I'm rather irate.

Clemson better hope the charges aren't dropped...

Jun 17, 2009, 1:00 AM

or the administration will look REALLY stupid. The last couple of years were disappointing, but coach Adair had a pretty solid run when you take into account all 14 years. Clemson played in the Final Four of the tournament in 2005. Riggs was packed several times during coach Adair's tenure. Maybe Dr. Phillips has more information than I do (and I would hope that's the case) but this move could backfire. As for coach Davis, Clemson needed a female women's basketball coach to appease the NCAA, which is why he was let go. Coach Ford was let go for insubordination, a perfectly justifiable reason. If the charges against coach Adair are dropped (or resolved), then there was NO reason to force him out.

It's finally time to speak up.
I am coach Adair's oldest daughter Courtney. It's time for TRUE, REAL clemson family members to know the truth.
My father is the best man, dad and coach I know. One thing that upsets me through this is the unfairness and hypocracy of it all. If you read one thing, read this, if I had an abusive or violent father, every member of this family would have gone running. Instead, today, more than ever, I stand by my dad and I will defend him til the end. He has always put his family before anyone else, and that is the true measure of a great father, especially one that is a "high profile" soccer coach. My father has never harmed my sister, mother, nor I. He never would, and he never will. The charges brought against him are unfitting and false. Although no one will ever know all the details of that night, I know in my heart the truth, and that is all that should matter to the Clemson family. The Clemson family should stand by a man who has given them so much and has so much yet to give. He is a great man, great coach and an even greater father. We are a wonderful, strong family, and the fact that we have been made out to be anything less, is very upsetting.

As for his resignation, it is a day of great sadness for Clemson University. The sad fact is that I am disapointed with the lack of support from the administration, and I do not believe that they fit the definition of "Clemson Men." However,I feel my dad exemplifies that definition. My dad is an amazing coach, he has put 54 players into the proffessional leagues, I do not believe that another coach has done that from a college position. But more important than wins and loses, my dad strives to make his players better men when they leave this campus. Men that will represent this University well in the real world. Clemson will be hardpressed to find a coach that cares about his players as much as coach Adair does. Clemson is family, which is exactly why it is a shame to see my dad go. He's a great family man, and his team has always been considered his second family. To not be shown support after giving back so much to this supposed "family," shows me that perhaps our administrators need to learn a few family lessons of their own. So clemson family members, I ask you this, from now on, stand by your memembers. Defend them til the end, and in all situations. Because if you are the caliber of person that belongs in the Clemson family, you know that what Clemson has done to Trevor Adair is WRONG.

Another great example of the "Clemson Family" turning it's back on one of it's own. Pollack, Ford, Davis and now Adair. The change needs to be at the top. Barker & Phillips need to go to restore Clemson to the Clemson we all know and love. People who don't care about Clemson getting rid of the people who have passion for Clemson.
