Farewell to the Turnover Chain

'Bout time. All those gimmicks were pretty stupid, but I don't think any were dumber than FSU's turnover backpack. Made 'em look like Dora the Explorer. At least the Turnover Chain was the original (or at least the original that got publicity). There were some other pretty bad ones, too! So glad Clemson never got caught up in that idiocy.

I just read some where the NCAA may be passing a rule against those antics outside the dugout in baseball too. It could be goodbye to the fur coat and "Daddy" cap for Tennessee too.

about. But, yes, some of these gimmicks are stupid and distracting from doing what you are now getting paid to do. I certainly don't go around the office prancing around waving my calculator and computer mouse when I solve an engineering problem to get a golden pocket protector.

(Just for the record ... I have never owned or donned a pocket protector.)

All that stuff is stupid but I believe in allowing a little celebration after touchdown. A little dance or a back flip. That doesn't seem like taunting to me. Just wrap it up in about 5 seconds.

Mario Cristobal has serious weaknesses as a football coach, but one thing he made clear at Oregon is that he has no problem clearing out deadwood he doesn't like.

The turnover chain garbage doesn't fit him at all. He runs a much tighter ship than recent Miami coaches and won't tolerate knuckleheads who won't do things his way.

I predict he'll last 5-6 years there before his welcome is worn out.

you know it’s one thing to have a celebratory gimmick when you’re consistently one of the best. it’s another to have it when you pretty much suck every year.

That being said, I am not a fan of such ridiculous things. If you make a great play, it’s because you’re teammates and you all executed the coaches play call perfectly. Celebrate together for a few seconds or minutes and refocus to make the next great play. Then when the final whistle blows bring out the gimmicks and good times and enjoy the W
