I like a 6 team championship..........

Why not go to a 6 team championship?
Take your 4 Power 5 Champions (ACC, SEC, PAC, Big10)
Take next two highest ranked teams regardless of conference.
Top two teams get byes (reward)
Next 4 teams play at higher seeded home field.
Then you have 4 teams left to send to bowl games.
You could even reseed after the first round so Bama would play the lowest remaining seed, etc.

Power 5 is FIVE conferences, you left out the Big 12. I say all five plus the best group if 6 team, no conference repeats.

Yes, did not realize Big 12 going to Championship next year.
Then take Power 5 champs and next highest ranked. Top two teams get a bye,.

I believe they add 2 teams now that Texas got exactly what they wanted (Herman and additional threat in Texas of Houston). The Big 12 should take BYU and either Colorado St or Air Force to open up those markets and footprints, imo.
They are still a Power 5 without a conference championship. However, they will eventually be dissolved if they don't get with the program.

If they didn't win their conference.... they aren't the best in their conference.
That's how it works....wins and losses, you know.
But why should we let those pesky things get in the way?

I'm not sure I would change how the teams are picked though. I kind of like the committee choosing all of the teams. It allows for human insight. What if a Power 5 conference has a really down year and every team has 3 or more losses, and they all look mediocre to bad? Should winning a bad conference get you in? I prefer that we let the best teams in, and that takes human intervention.

Yes That is why you are probably seeing the last of conference championship games if a non conference champion gets in No one will have conference championship games it only hurts you as a conference in the long run This is why the Big 12 is not expanding If we struggle against VT we could fall out. When we beat VT they will drop out of top 25 it is a lose lose situation. The money loss from no Championship game will be made up in better bowl games by the conference ACC would go to a Divisional champ status. Drop cross division games and then teams could schedule stronger out of Conference then CFP would expand to 8 top 2 get a buy then the others would play for the final 2 spots. then you are not adding any extra games SEC would do divisional and so would The B!G and Pac Now if you think about it the big is the smart ones
