I want all of you to see something about Cole Stoudt

Oct 13, 2014, 1:04 PM

Quote made earlier today from Cole Stoudt after being benched this year.

The biggest thing, he said, was to make sure that he didn't have a bad attitude. Stoudt said that could have bubbled over and affected the team as a whole.

"The team is bigger than just one player."

But it wasn't easy. He leaned on a lot of different people to help deal with being benched.

"Family was a huge part. They talked to me every single day. Friends from back home, friends here on campus, teammates, they were helping me. It's big to have people helping me, especially on this team."

He's right. Players like Chad Kelly, and many others, could have tried to sabotage the rest of the team given their personal failures, which would have a significant affect on the chemistry we have seemed to develop. Cole Stoudt was better than that.

Stoudt may not be the most phenomenal talent, but he is OUR talent. All the players that put on those tiger uniforms want to be Clemson tigers, and for that alone we should give them our full support.

Get behind this young man or GFY. Win, lose, or draw, I'm a CLEMSON supporter. Go Cole. Go Tigers.

As so eloquently stated by a poster on a post of mine on Saturday; "I only regret, that I have but one TU to give to your post."

With all his success, his highest salary was $25,000 a year. The president of the university, Dr. R. F. Poole, feared that professors who earned less would be upset. "He called me up and said that he didn't want me to tell anybody what I made," Howard once said. "I said: 'Doc, you don't have to worry. I'm as ashamed as you are of what you pay me.' I truly believe that Cole is just not having fun right now. I think if he takes all the weight of the world off his shoulders then he'll come out and surprise. I didn't notice him being a off balanced passer any of the last 3 years. With the weapons he have around him if someone takes him and sit him aside and say hey just understand that your team has your back; and don't worry about the fans just go have fun man. I think Cole will shock and amaze all of you and have a great season.

Juice, good call, he has played tight this year, looking less like he was trying to make something good happen and more like he was trying to not mess up.

Saturday was a little difficult; he was playing hurt. Remember he came out the week before and Schuessler finished up the game. He only took a few snaps on Thursday and had a pain shot before the game Saturday. Most of the whiners overlook this.

I can see both perspectives. DW knows he can only surprise when he goes out there and he has several more years to prove his stock. Cole knows it is now or never, and I think he is taking it too seriously and being too hard on himself.

From what I've read, it seems that the offensive line gained a ton of respect for Cole after Saturday's gutsy performance. They knew he was hurt, and they knew he didn't take any reps during practice. I look for them to give Cole their best effort this Saturday against Boston College.

I'm sure someone will (nicely) correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it last year that Cole came on in relief of Tajh in the BC game and hit 19 of 20?

He has it in him. I think he comes out Saturday and surprises some folks.

You're right on both accounts, but mixed up the games. 19-20 was against SC State.

He came in the BC game though when it was much in doubt, and led us on several very critical scoring drives.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree. I think early in the season the Clemson world was

on his shoulders and the pressure of Watson was real.

Now, for at least 4 weeks or so, Cole WILL BE THE MAN. The pressure will lift, and he will play like he played in the past 3 years behind Tajh. He's ready for this. I'm ready to enjoy watching him over the next few weeks!

would have been a nice post but the last line ruined it. But you do that a lot, criticizing people and name calling. So par for the course for you.

Liked Cole's 1st Drive/TD vs Dawgs! Showed Determination, THEN..........

Oct 13, 2014, 1:39 PM

Had couple on target passes dropped (not his fault) and later in came Watson with super TD pass..and back & forth substituion between them til end...and then our QB controversy showed uP...IMO.

Cole has been schooled by some of the best (inclu DaD) and CAN Get the job done IF he's given the plays that suit his abilities.

GoTiGERS...keep fighting, Men!

I don't like to see the same old threads questioning coaches, their intelligence, their salaries, their perceived arrogance over and over and over BUT this is a discussion board and they are accountable. It's NOT under any circumstance okay to spew hate, boo-ing, making fun of, question family involvement in the coaches decisions, calling him a teachers pet......this is out of the boundary of acceptable adult behavior. Football is suppose to be fun, I doubt Cole has had much fun lately. The Clemson insider article today was intentionally cruel and pointed, IMO! There's no call for it. If our team can be allowed to go out and have fun and win there is no telling what can happen.

Good post OP. I've been a Cole supporter for the past 3 years, and I would like to have seen more of him instead of Tajh. I hated that Watson got injured, but am happy for Cole. I hope he does well and enjoys his last year at CLEMSON. I'll support him - win or lose. I like too many things in regards to how he represents CLEMSON. That's enough for me.

Re: I agree.

I know that Cole's father has taught him many lessons about the game. One of those lessons, I am quite certain, was how to put the team goals before your individual goals. Remember that Cliff backed up Terry Bradshaw for many years, didn't play much, got Super Bowl rings and an NFL pension. Those lessons I'm sure helped Cole deal with losing the job to DW, and will help him deal with being the starter for the next three weeks. Go Tigers!

It'll be interesting to see

Oct 13, 2014, 6:23 PM

How Cole comes out on Saturday and whether or not he starts pressing.

If he plays even close to the first half against UGA then we win by double digits. If not, hope our defense rises up to the challenge. Lord knows our offense has had to bail us out more times than once the past few years.

Re: I want all of you to see something about Cole Stoudt

I still have plenty of faith in Cole. We don't know why he has played so tight for sure, but I think I have a clue. Cole knew this year is what he has worked for behind Tajh. But then came Deshaun Watson that turned out to be as good as advertised snipping at his heals for the starting job if Cole screwed up. I think that the pressure was getting to him b/c he knew he wasn't the type of QB Morris wanted, and that fact was made known everyday at practice. And that pressure caused Cole to play away from his own experience and talent. Cole knows now that this is his job for 4 or 5 weeks to lose to Nick that he knows can't and won't happen. I expect to see Cole play at Cole's abilities, and he will do a very good job at what Cole does the best. And that is control the game with the way he knows he can do without any pressure of the first screw up and being pulled and replaced by the Watson phenomenon. Cole has at least 4 weeks without the pressure to prove he can do this, and I believe he does just that. Cole doesn't have and never will have the type of talent that Deshaun has. But Cole is talented in his own way of playing the game. I think that Cole would have thrived in a pro style pocket passer offense. But Morris runs and loves the QB run, gun, and hurdle offense!!!

Exactly. Clemson recruited Cole, Cole committed to Clemson. cole waited patiently, worked, and finally got his turn. We have heard nothing about him having a poor attitude, being selfish, etc. "Fans" have no reason to complain about him. Hes a good kid, good attitude and he's gonna go off this weekend and then everyone will be kissing his a$$.
