He really has! Not a good showing by the big man. He had a few decent blocks, but for the most part he's struggling. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt those aren't rookies he's going against. Most have been 2nd and 3rd team veteran guys. At least I hope so!

So not getting drafted makes sense it seems..

I wouldn't say that. My goodness you expected him to come out and look like an All-Pro his very first preseason game? Let's let it play out. There are 1st round guys who look bad in their first preseason games. I wouldn't take too much out of it. Hyatt was one of the best college offensive lineman during his time here and considering every NFL player came from college and Hyatt has faced some of the best d-lines over his career I'd guess he'll figure it out. You hear over and over that playing the offensive line may be the toughest position on a team. I'd imagine he was swimming mentally but let's not act like this wasn't his first ever NFL game. Heck for all we know he has been tearing it up in camp and had an off night. To say after his first preseason game that him not getting drafted makes sense is asinine.

Hyatt was not one of the best college offensive lineman. Those guys dont go undrafted. He was decent to pretty good, but he got whipped a lot.

He got whipped a lot?

You must have been watching a different team than I.

Still, the college game doesn't necessarily translate to the NFL. Tahj and Ben Boulware were greats at the college level, for example.

Mitch did NOT get "whipped a lot."

The definition of awesome!

You must have been watching Alabama offense line get whipped since they were “tired”.

He started nearly 60 games and didn't give up double digit sacks in his entire career. He was named 4 time all conference (3 1st team), 2 time acc blocker of the year, freshmen All American and 2 time All American (consensus in 2018). You dont get those types of credentials from being whipped alot.

Agreed!

Besides isn't he learning a new position (guard)?

He was playing left tackle last night and did not have a real good night. A couple of times he was just overpowered by a bull rush. I read an article saying that his footwork needs work and it does not look real positive for him to make the team unless it is the practice squad. I don't think he has the quickness to be a guard, so I don't think it is a matter of moving him inside.

Yeah! Makes me wonder how come he was able to stand up to big time DE's from Ohio St., Alabama, NC State(Chubb), Florida St, etc. And, how did he obtain all the accolades? Is our system good enough to make an average OL look that awesome? Has to be; b/c it doesn't make sense otherwise. Keeping in mind Mitch was a 5 star prospect coming out of H.S.

Either way, I wish him all the luck in the world! He won't need it; because he is a 1st class dude and smart. I hope he catches on to a team and is given the time he needs to work on whatever it is he is lacking! I'm pulling for him and all pro-Tigers!

The article I read also said he needed to get stronger. That is funny, because the first round draft pick from Bama, Jonah Williams did not do as many 225 Lb.reps at the combine as Mitch. I guess it all about how you use your strength and strength and flexibility from the waist down and probably more important. Sometimes great college players just do not transition into the NFL. I'm pulling for him!

Was he playing at Tackle or Guard? If he’s playing the same position as he did at Clemson then that’s not good news. I thought I read the Cowboys were interested to convert him to Guard, so I could understand if he’s struggling.

He was playing LT.

Here is the Bryan Broaddus report from dallascowboys.com

Tip of the cap to Joe Looney, Xavier Su’A-Filo and Adam Redmond for playing the entire game. It’s not something the staff wanted to do, but they had no choice. If there was a positive from this, it was that they were able to get a solid evaluation on their quarterbacks. The front of the pocket was generally clean for the most part, and when there were problems it was from the tackle spot -- where Mitch Hyatt is just not strong enough to handle his assignments to that side.

That maybe true; but it reminds me of a saying I heard years ago!

"YOU DON'T THROW AWAY A CADILLAC BECAUSE IT HAS A DENT IN IT"!

Hopefully, they have or some other team has enough patience to get his strength up to where it needs to be; because he moves well for a man his size. Once they do that; he will be a gem. Already a gem in my mind the way he has protected two of the best QB's college football has ever seen blind-sides!

We all want him to be good and stick with a team. But one thing the NFL does not have is patience. No longer does a quarterback sits for four or five seasons getting tutored by a veteran. They expect their rookies to be able to step in a contribute in some capacity if even just special teams and tackles are not usually very valuable on special teams, unless maybe the field goal unit.
