Just going to put this out there.

Expect some kind of new covid news soon, probably within a week or two, tops.

What kind of news? You have a theory? Just a hunch?

Hunch/Theory

Total hunch/theory....but I'm thinking there is a new VOC out there. Actually, there may be several, and they're not being named, or talked about. I'll list a few reasons why I think this.

First, there is a scientist on Twitter, NOT a covidian, but a respectable scientist, who released a study early this year saying Omicron variants do not suppress MHC1 (Type 1IFN) as much as prior variants. And this was true, of the original omicron variant. This is why it was milder. It did not have to suppress innate immunity because omicron could transmit without any problems at all. Much better than past variants. It did not NEED to suppress innate immunity. Prior to omicron covid had kept going, through Delta, suppressing MHC1 interferons. That made the viral loads higher, more virus to clear, more severe...yada yada. She recently released a new study showing each subsequent omicron variant has increased MHC1 suppression, BA.1, BA.2, BA.4, BA.5, etc. That's a total 180 for her, and she never mentioned her previous study.

Second, the variant hunters are finding new variants left and right. 16 in the past three days. Normally I don't pay much attention to them. The moderator for the variant guys website is probably the best virologist in the UK, and he is NOT a covid alarmist. When a new variant is discovered, he labels them on the website. There's a tag to monitor the variant, others to name the family, and one that says "recommend" where he recommends the variant be added to the Pango variant list. He was the guy who flagged omicron a year ago with only 4 samples. He's on top of things in other words. Normally he recommends a variant be added to Pango maybe one out of every 50 or so. Out of the 16 the past few days, he's "recommended" SIX.

Third, there are some places in the world with massive outbreaks where hospitals are beyond overwhelmed. We know about China. But Ireland has a surge in hospitalizations and they are instituting crisis care, again. Asking people to limit 999 calls (UK's version of 911). Japan has the highest hospitalizations of the pandemic, and their hospitals are surging too. Australia is seeing the same thing. NYC is seeing the same thing as well. In all these places hospitalizations are beyond normal levels given the cases, for omicron anyway. Dublin hospitals are in a crisis, at levels of occupancy they've never seen during the entire pandemic, and Ireland is 94% vaccinated!!!!

Fourth, variants have been showing mutations in ORF7/8, indicating those areas where the genes that suppress interferons are located. One new variant, in Ireland, has picked up E:D72G, a nasty envelope mutation seen in Delta, and is known for adding severity.

Fifth, China has said they're seeing "white Lung" cases, again. I say again because they nearly disappeared with omicron, but were common in Wuhan, and in India with Delta. Younger people are also getting white lung disease in China now, and that's new. It was mostly older people who got it previously.

Sixth, the CDC has started testing people arriving from China. Italy, UK as well. 52% of people on a flight to Milan from China recently tested covid positive upon landing. They're not testing people to prevent the virus from spreading, they're testing to get samples to sequence to see what's going on in China since China has only released 14 sequences in the past 6 months.

XBB.1* and BN.1.* variants all have heightened MHC1 reduction and innate immune suppression. They're also not responsive to monoclonal antibodies (at all), or to vaccines, even the new ones provide very little immunity.

Last, Eric Ding, the famous covid nut on Twitter recently posted a post saying he just learned something that public health had kept hidden and secret. The post was deleted. I doubt that was a stunt.

My theory is there are probably several new variants out there that have omicron's transmission, and Delta's innate immune suppression and severity. Basically a slew of new variants that are just as severe as Wuhan/Alpha/Beta/Pi/Lambda/Delta, but transmit like omicron. This would make sense because prior to omicron, the virus mutated to suppress innate immunity more and more, then omicron was a reset. I think it's mutating that same general way again.

ALL OF THIS IS JUST A HUNCH. But it's clear something is happening. My hunch goes further that the CDC, UK, etc. are waiting for a traveler, or travelers, to come back with these new more severe variants, then they will blame China on it. Fact is, they're already out there, but I think they will try and frame China. They may well have come from China, but just know they're already circulating, before China reopened, and before they tested travelers. I know in the UK and Italy they are sequencing every traveler from China who arrives. Again, this is to collect sequences, not stop any transmission or protect anyone. They're looking for something, and they know exactly what they're looking for if I had to guess.

THAT NEVER GOT USED DURING THE “WORST” SURGES. They can help cure these variants.

For whatever reason it is driving hospitalizations, mostly among the elderly, moreso than past variants even. Probably because vaccines and prior infections have little impact on it. Keep this one away from grandma. People will face this variant without monoclonal antibodies, and without any significant vaccine, or prior immunity.

Anyway, you heard it here first. I didn't realize the news would come today, but felt something was going to pop.

I'll let this guy speak more about it, since I don't feel like typing any more.

Well, here we go. Looks like we just learn to accept the fact that this thing is with us for the long haul. With that understanding we just live life without lockdowns, mask requirements , vaccine requirements, etc. It is what it is. Hope everybody fairs well.

In the infamous words of Hillary Clinton: "What difference

at this point does it make?"

We can't stop COVID from spreading and we can't stop COVID from mutating. Simply put - it's a virus and the virus is going to do what the virus is going to do.

By all means study COVID and do the best we can with treating the disease (like we do every other kind of virus) but the time for disrupting everyone's life through COVID panic is long past as is the idea that lockdowns and other draconian measures will stop it.

We all live with many different diseases on this planet - been that way since humans took their first breath of air. Just add COVID to that long list and drive on with life.
