I think that I know what you're saying, but let me say this, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday on and before Gameday here in cootlumbia, I see as many, most years more Clemson Flags on vehicles here than I do cooter flags. On any day driving in cootlumbia, I see a lot more Clemson club decals on vehicle windows than anything that the coots have like a Clemson club. Unless you live here in cootlumbia, it could be hard to believe just how many Clemson fans there are living here. Columbia isn't a really bad place to live having to deal with coot fans as long as you're not in the down town area. Where all the taller building are, it's over run with coots, but that's where I like riding my Harley through after our Tigers have beat a big name team, or the coots, it's before, and after the game!!!!

“Unsung” athletes. If there were any rules about NIL this could be a problem; but since there aren’t oh well. Can’t wait for Dan Wolken’s article bashing Dabo for joining a company with a corporate strategy of “paying” players.

It's also owned by LSU grads from the other Death Valley.
I don't really know what to think of any of this; why not invest in an upstate-based company instead, for example, or even one from Clemson?

Clearly, just not with a restaurant or any other franchise.
Maybe it's just me, but it feels incredibly strange Coach Swinney is in no uncertain terms helping guys from the other Death Valley make money outright (rather than something exclusively Clemson or Upstate-based), know what I mean?

I'll take a wild gander at this and say that Dabo probably invested nothing. He is being given a stake to be a spokesperson. It may be presented as "Dabo invested in Walk-Ons." But, my guess is the truth is closer to "Walk-Ons just gave Dabo an ownership position in some franchises in return for Dabo acting like an investor."
The truth may be somewhere in between.
One thing most don't realize about very high net worth individuals is what they do with their money. Your normal checking account is FDIC insured up to $250,000. You could open up accounts at different banks. But what do you do when you have $10M in cash? One answer is you use a private banker. Those guys charge you interest to hold your money. I've always thought that was a bad idea, but I understand why some people want to do that (ability to get liquid really fast).
Another thing is to make good investments. That money can make you money. Dabo, undoubtedly, has some smart financial advisors who are handling his money. Making an investment in a retail operation probably seems like a good idea. Don't take this is anything more than what it is... a financial transaction.

I agree with keeping it simple; I do sincerely see it as nothing more than finance, all I'm saying is it feels strange that it's contributing to graduates & fans of the other Death Valley & explicitly not something based in Clemson or Anderson county, even Seneca or something like that.

That could very well be the case. I remember when we lived in South Florida in the 80s and a developer gave Dan Marino a million dollar house in the new Weston development to be the spokesperson for that new development. That’s how the rich get richer.

I ate at my first Walk-On's last month in Orlando and really enjoyed it!! Had alligator and crawfish etouffe(sp?). Excellent beer selection as well.
Going to east Texas next week and already planning to eat at Walk-On's in either Shreveport, La. or Tyler, Tx.
I saw last week that they have already have signed contracts for one in Greenville!!

We visited Tyler, Texas in November. Nice older town with some new construction mixed in. Visited a great brewery called True Vine Brewing. Out from the city a little bit but great newer area!!

Just ate there twice in Shreveport going to and retuning from Dallas. The alligator, crawfish etoufee, and blackened catfish were excellent. Pleasantly surprised by a chain restaurant. The Chive TV makes for some entertaining viewing also. Wouldn’t mind them putting one here in Florence.

gone well “overall” for sports figures since many go out of biz but this chain should flourish due to original concept for existing, really different meats & dishes available and having the ownership/investors of solid & highly successful men particularly in the sports realm.,

It might help recruit some great ETN’s from the Deep South Cajun style! I’m sure Dabo got a sweet deal here as his name carries weight in this area. You can believe he had some good lawyers make sure he’s covered.
I can’t blame him for taking a chance on making more money with a little risk. I think they probably made it where he isn’t able to put input into advertising with college players & etc.
He’s making money on the name he’s built with great character, great vision & determination.
