If this happens we might be better off in the Big 12, depending on who else they add and what the resulting $$$ are

Article says Big 12 would be third superconference
Sep 29, 2022, 3:04 PM

If they get 6 from the PAC, and my math is right, that would put them at 18 and the B1G at 20 after the dust settles. Surely the Big 12 would add at least two more, even if the B1G stood pat after adding the six from the PAC. SEC would have 16 as it stands now, so they would likely add more, too. I am just saying that if the money is similar and the opportunity is there, we might be better off in the Big 12 than the SEC.
I like the matchups (and travel) better in the SEC, but in that conference we would be a top 5 team; in the Big 12, we would likely be top dog in football right out of the gate. B12 and SEC will both be powerhouses, but also very top heavy.

Big 12 would have quantity and be spread from West Virginia to the the west coast, but does that make them a super conference? They would be a confederation of left-overs and left-behinds. None of their teams currently have (or would have) better brands than Clemson, FSU, Miami and Virginia Tech.
Not considering Texas and OU in the currently have and assuming they won’t get Oregon or Washington since the B1G will.

If this happens, I would guess the Big12 would go after Utah. I would anyway.

wont be able to get out of the grant of rights so none of these teams will leave for the SEC. The ACC needs to get talking to schools about joining before it is too late. If those teams leave for the BIG10, which most likely will happen the others in the PAC will jump to the BIG12. Leaving nothing for the ACC. The ACC needs to get aggressive and try to get Cinci, Ok St, one of either Texas Tech, TCU, or Baylor to join. And then Arizona State. That will bring in new TV markets and allow us to get more money from ESPN.

GOR or not, to survive, we'd have to kick our way out of the ACC.

Looking at the New College Ecosystem ...

Especially the B1G (Ten), UCLA, Rutgers, Cal, Stanford, Illinois, and Maryland look like weak sauce on the field. And Notre Dame, with their new coaching staff, looks like they are lessening their sale price to join the B1G at a crucial time. IMHO Notre Dame has many more losses ahead.
But I hope you're on point bretfsu® withe SEC forecast ... seems like Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC would be the preference. But UNC/UVA would bring more $$ and academic pop over Va Tech and Miami ...

How to get out of GOR.

I don't know. I'm just a fan. But, if 4 to 8 teams want to leave for another conference, then they will fins a way to abolish the GOR.
Boosters ans Boards are made up of very smart and very rich people. They can hire very smart and very expensive lawyers to figure out how to make it happen.
What if ESPN said they weren't going to keep paying megabucks for TV rights, football or basketball? What if the ACC realized its income would be less than the Sun Belt? How many schools does it take to disband the conference?
I don't know the answer to any of those questions. But, I'm just a fan. Those guys making the big bucks willfigure out a way to earn those bucks.

I truly believe it’s how you word a contract. For instance, if the GOR states that the ACC is entitled to any TV money the team gets, it may be as simple as paying them a signing bonus of say 35 million a year and 5 million a year “TV rights” (or nothing at all if they want to play dirty). Nothing says a team can’t leave just that the ACC has the TV rights.
