How short is Monte’s leash ?

If Monte Lee doesn’t make a super this year guy should be gone. And, I fear we won’t make it out of a regional, pitching is just not there. Guy has had ample time to build his roster. The end results have been no better that Leggett’s last 5 years as head coach. Besides the one ACC tournament win. Which was with Jack’s guys. We fired a guy that has forgotten more about baseball than Monte knows. Anything less than a super appearance we just look like idiots. Thanks Dan for firing one of the best coaches this university had for an unproven gamecock.

I agree playing great right now. Offensive stats are highly skewed with facing super weak pitching. Our pitching has to come a long way. Young roster. If we can’t get 2-3 from this weak SC team missing a lot of starting pitching season doesn’t look so good. Will watch and cheer, but never been a Monte fan. At some point is we keep underperforming we have to start wondering what we fired jack for.

Lol honest question. If reading the article in the State this week didn’t have you missing the glory days of Clemson baseball idk if you have a pulse. I get firing good for great. But firing good for mediocre ??? Very fair subject after the first year of not making post season play since 08 and first losing season since 1957

Monte has yet to give a end result better than Leggett's last 5 years as head coach. And Leggett has proven he could get to Omaha. Monte has made it out of one regional and it was at his previous job

Kind of a dumb take. The best team monte has had they canceled the year due to covid. We were 14-3 and beat down South Carolina in 2 games. And some years making the regionals we have always had the toughest 2 seed in our region. No way we get vandy two years in a row. Then another year we had Oklahoma state who a tough team that year. Baseball is different than it was 10-15 years ago. We haven’t fallen as far as the team from Columbia so there’s that.

No where did I say fire him ? I said how long of a leash does he have? What is this current administration expectation with baseball ??? Apparently previous coach wasn’t getting it done. So was wondering how long monte had before he produces results. This could be the very year he produces if not what our the expectations of the program going forward ?

Montes expectations should be to always make a regional and be in a position to host regularly. Anything past that is icing. The landscape of college baseball has changed quite a bit since Jacks (and Clemson’s) glory days. I was (and am) a Jack fan, but the last couple of years of his tenure the culture of the team was terrible and I think Jack no longer related to the players the way he used to. Jack was old school and it just wasn’t working anymore. The culture of Montes teams has appeared to be much better. With the exception of last year, IMO Monte has done a good job. This year has started out better than any of us would have expected. Let’s see how it plays out. If this season nosedives, ML’s seat will be pretty warm next year, otherwise, he should be safe for a while. Unless we level the playing field some for him, expecting more than hosting regionals is probably expecting too much.

Yea I agree that the landscape has changed and we are not making it easy for him. We still bring in pretty talented guys. Usually have top 20 recruiting classes. I think a super every now and then is not out the realm of possibility.

Pulling for the guy but definitely should have this program in better shape than what we have seen. Not making the regionals or not getting to the super’s on occasion is a big deal.
Growing up going to the regionals was a fore gone conclusion. I am an avid sports fan but roster management on the baseball side with the draft and limited scholarships seems pretty difficult imo to keep up with as a fan.

Yea I think so too. I understand the landscape has changed, and we are at a disadvantage to top programs with our scholarships. But, this area has way too much baseball talent to not expect to make a super every now and then. A trip to Omaha maybe once every 10 years would be nice.

Monte has turned this program into a middle of the pack mid major type team . The players he gets just can’t beat good teams . We basically beat up on the weekday teams and bad ACC teams . Rack up enough wins to get a regional, then have no chance to advance. The first 2 years with Jacks players were his best teams and couldn’t do nothing with them . CML just can’t get the big time players here like Jack could .

The recruiting is there. We have consistently had top 20 recruiting classes under Monte, which is good enough to compete at a high level. If there is one thing about Monte that seems to be a hang up is player development. Also, I will say this... things had stagnated under Jack. Maybe he got tired or whatever, but he was not the same coach he was in the early 2000s. Jack was an amazing coach and I am not trying to take anything away from him, but lets be honest he is not the "marble man" everyone seems to remember after a few years have gone by. I do hear your frustration and understand where it is coming from.
