SCar looks to be saving NIL money for Nycolas Harbor

They've lost both their starting DEs who were rapidly improving to the transfer portal (Edmond likely to FSU and Birch likely to Oregon), arguably their best offensive weapon and swiss army knife in Bell to FSU, and their starting RB Lloyd to likely Southern Cal.
Harbor is one of the most highly profiled recruits coming out because of his freakish size and speed. They have been said to be the favorite for his services (rumors are that his girlfriend is going there as well on a track scholarship). You know his services won't come cheap. It looks like they are putting all their eggs in his basket and said the heck with taking care of their more established guys. That is definitely a risky proposition.

Bell is a freak athlete with no position. Didn't have good hands, didn't run good routes, didn't block well enough to be a TE, and was terrible out of the backfield. He should have listened to Lincoln Riley when OU recruited him as a LB. Would have much rather had Nate Adkins get all his snaps. Bell had one good game in 25...against a UNC D that was one of the worst in the country. That's it.
Juice Wells was by far our best weapon on O.
Our DL was not very good, so while they may have been improving, still not nearly irreplaceable. We're in on some good portal edge guys. Looks like we'll be better off there.
Lloyd can't stay healthy, so who knows how he would have ended up. But he didn't really give us a chance to keep him until after the fact, and it was too late.
I've got ZERO issues in saving up NIL for Harbor, if that's what's going on. His upside dwarfs anyone we've lost by a mile.
I know it's fun for you guys to see us lose players, and it's fun for us to see you lose players. But overall, this environment just sucks. Burch is a hometown kid. One year left before he goes off to the NFL and makes many multiples of what he's going to make in NIL. Not good for CFB. But the biggest kick in the nuts is the responsibility is falling on fans to fund NIL collectives in order to succeed, while the schools and the NCAA don't have to share any of the profits they make on the backs of these kids. Sickening, and it makes the NFL look like a lot better option.

The difference is that you are losing starters to the portal. We aren't.

Yep we've never lost a player of significance to the portal

No starter has ever left our program to make a lateral move to another Power 5 program unlike at SCar. All the guys we've had leave just weren't going to play meaningful snap here. There's a major distinction there. It says something about your program overall when guys are starters, play significant snaps and they still want to get up out of there.

I think it says there's a change in direction and culture for what Beamer is doing than what Muschamp was doing. Muschamp tried to sell a training camp for the NFL to these kids. He didn't give a #### about the program or the university.

I'm not sure I follow your logic.

Beamer's direction is causing the starters that he didn't recruit to leave the team, and that's expected?
How many players has SCAR lost to the portal this year? How many of those were starters or played significant minutes during the season?
Aren't you concerned with starters hitting the transfer portal?

Beamer has a different approach than Muschamp. Some of Muschamp's players quit in the middle of the year when he was fired.
Not saying it's expected that we're losing the amount of starters we are. Just saying if it's going to happen, it's going to happen at a place with a new HC trying to build vs a place with an established HC and an established program.
Of course it's concerning anytime you lose starters. In my opinion, none of them were that good. Lloyd performed the best, but he can't stay out of the trainer's room. I just think production wise, it's not going to be that big of an issue to replace them. The only one that will make a significant impact is if Juice declares.
We've lost 13 total. 5 were contributors. And one of those (Edmond) was only a contributor b/c of injuries to guys ahead of him. Stogner is included there too...he played, but was a non factor. We had 4 guys that accumulated any stats...Lloyd, Bell, Edmond, Burch.

True. I think that's expected. Dabo has been there 10+ years. He has an established program. The guys we are losing Beamer didn't recruit. No secret we had some bad mojo in the locker room with Boom. Bunch of me, me, me guys.

We've got a good class going, so it's not just one guy. If we do land him good chance we end up with a higher rated class than Clem. Can't remember the last time that happened.

Live by portal is some schools recruiting methods. I hope most portal guys flop cause a player with one isn’t worth it. If Beamer has no hope in his recruits then don’t recruit them ? it will eventually hurt most schools if they are using portal guys instead of recruits. It will eventually backfire on a lot of programs who can’t sustain a good recruiting class. Nothing wrong with picking up a player or two for needs but building teams around portal guys with eventually cause recruits to look elsewhere if they are worried about not playing

Agree 100%, and that's exactly what Beamer is doing. We literally have no TEs on roster anymore. So he's got a couple of portal TEs and we'll get a couple HS guys. We've got 22 HS commits and 5 portal guys. We'll get a few more portal guys to offset the recent portal losses. But I'd hardly say he's building a program with transfers. We're taking transfers at positions that have significant depth issues.

First time I’ll agree with a coot. Yes you’re right. This environment is totally sickening and has ruined football. I will laugh and enjoy it anytime the coot program is in turmoil but I do hate it for the game of college football.

He's getting in the neighborhood of $2M right now. So it's not a matter of paying him more to stay. It's a matter of how high he thinks he'll get drafted. I think everyone just assumed this was a 1 year deal with him. Obviously he didn't have the year we expected, so now he's got some soul searching to do. Honestly, I wouldn't be too upset with him leaving. Outside of UT and Vandy, he performed terribly. He's out there making true freshman mistakes as a 3rd year player. A ton of upside, but the 2022 production would be hard to replace...aside from the UT game.
