How Many Offensive Coaching staffs in the NCAA could have

Nov 10, 2021, 12:27 PM

had the same results with DW and TL?
I know that's a loaded question, but it has some weight to it.
Are we really getting 2million+ worth out of our OC?
Did we really miss on pretty much every offensive player in recruiting ?
BAMA/OSU/Okla are all top 8 at the moment, we are the only ones who have fallen off the face of the earth.
A lot of questions....

I'll say that most any coaching staff could have won a NC with our 2018 team!!!

I was thinking about your “falling off the earth” comment before. While a drop off was expected by losing TL, ETN and Rogers (around 80% of our offense last year), I don’t think anyone thought they’d see what we’ve seen so far this year. To be clear, I’m not putting down any player. However, when I look at other programs, for instance OSU - they lost Fields (their TL) among many others, and as compared they haven’t missed a major beat offensively. This is the same with the other top programs (AL and OK). To me and I may be wrong, it has to fall on our lack of coaching and development abilities from TE and our OJT offensive assistants. We desperately need a serious upgrade on the offensive side.

For instance tOSU, you realize tOSU has what most people consider the best receiver tandem in the country in Olave and Wilson? I think both are projected 1st round. I think it is difficult to project what DJ could do with a couple 1st rounders at receiver but last year with a 3rd and 5th round he did pretty good. Maybe some of what we have will be 1st round eventually but not now.

Well my only response to your stupid question is this; only one coaching staff got the results with Watson and Lawrence!!

Most important fact is only one staff

Clemson has the 2nd most wins in college football since Dabo was hired, and we're the 2nd best team in the playoff era.

Clemson does NOT have the 2nd best level of talent over that time. That is, we've done more with less.

Year after year there are teams with more talent who accomplish less. It doesn't matter what players you have, you can't just throw them out there and play for national championships. It takes coaching. It still takes outsmarting the opposing coaches.
