There are 3 former 5 Star QBs on the Clemson roster. Has there ever been a school with that many 5 stars at QB to get absolutely nothing out of the position to the point where the offense can’t even be ran the way it’s supposed to?

to Notre Dame and barely beat NC State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse.
The point is that on paper, we have way more talent than everyone on our schedule this year not named Notre Dame. And if you look at recruiting rankings, we are absolutely more talented than Notre Dame.
Besides, don't we pay our head coach in excess of $10.5 million to make sure that we are not only beating th teams we are supposed to, but also competing with the elite teams in the country?
We've slipped in the last two years. It's concerning.

So why are tons of basketball teams with less talent and less facilities than us making the tournament every year, while we're stuck at home with more talent and EVERYTHING we need to win in basketball, except a coach?

How is that not squandering talent?
We might win our conference this year, but that's only because the ACC is a relatively weak football conference and we invest in our football program significantly more than the others do on average.
We are supposed to be competing for national championships. We spent hundreds of millions of dollars on elite facilities, pay our coaching staff among the most in the nation, and have more talent than 99% of college football teams. We should be doing better, period.

Historically, a one loss power 5 conference champion is in the playoffs. This year seems different though, with a lot of good teams clustered in the top 10. Plus, our relatively weak schedule doesn't do us any favors. This ranking has our strength of schedule 53rd nationally:

I appreciate that. Rankings have a lot of variables, including conference champions, but it is a ranking system nonetheless. I still think TN may be one of those rare teams that could slip in without winning a conference championship. I'm glad it makes sense to you now.

The guys on defense usually hit spot on and even lots of the lessor recruited ones end up amazing. It’s just the offense lately where the QBs and WRs can’t quite live up to their billing.

Johnson is an anomaly. He is a grad student only still on the roster because of the extra Covid eligibility. He and Cade are so far apart in age they really shouldn’t have been on the same roster. He was brought in as a grad assistant and only put on the roster because it was amazingly still an option. He is the emergency quarterback.

You know all of you guys are bustin' on JK for continuing to support Coach Brownell (and perhaps deservedly so) but y'all are taking the same approach to Dabo, so don't shoot the messenger.
Tigerfreak nmakes a valid point. Dabo is paid tens of millions of dollars a year to keep our program elite. Last year we were NOT elite and this year threatens the same. I think one would have to be blind and mindless not to at least ask questions
Some of us asked questions about not even considering outside replacements for OC & DC ?
Some of us asked questions about whether DJ was the right QB to lead us back to elite ?
Some of us asked questions about our WRs ability to get open ?
Some of us asked questions about CK's progress - ability to start ?
These are all legit questions about our program. Is our program suffering from a case of hiccups or are we in serious decline ? I don't have the answers, but the questions should be asked.

I see teams struggling everywhere and multiple new savior-coaches failing to deliver. Who would put us in a better spot? Really.

I would like for him to make better hires though.
His hires roughly a decade ago - most notably, Morris and Venables - transformed our program and were the keys to us becoming an elite program.
For some reason, Dabo started restricting new hires to mostly internal guys and Clemson alums. Perhaps a bit too much value on culture and not quite enough on football knowledge and experience. Because if he truly made great hires recently, we wouldn’t have Grisham, Spiller, Conn, Streeter, and Goodwin on staff. We certainly wouldn’t have three of them as coordinators.

Some change is needed but I don't think you throw everything away in one shot. They could stand to visit some of these teams that are schematically better and exchange ideas. I hate to say this bc I strongly dislike the guy but Ryan Day and Dabo could definitely help each other in different regards. Ohio State has a rock solid scheme imo. Don't need to copy them outright just get an insight on how they use personnel.
I haven't given up on Streeter yet as OC but I'd like to see a new face for QB coach(make Streeter strictly the play caller) and Wr coach.

Change the dang offense to fit the QB for crying out loud!!! Or maybe it’s the coaches can’t change due to their lack of creativity and knowledge of an offensive scheme…. Or they don’t have a darn clue who to recruit to the offense they want to run… ?
Talented 5 star recruits won the 2 natties… not the coaches. Flame away. But you can’t deny the plays down the stretch that won the 1st one was shear talent…

When 5 stars like Spencer Rattler can’t perform under coaches like Lincoln Riley…I think it boils down to mis-evaluation. Of course, that’s on the coaches too…but in a different way.

If he were #2 in the country in wins sincd being hired, with 6 tournament appearances, and an average of a #5 ranking since 2014, then maybe you could talk about football coaching. But alas, Brad's teams have an average finish in the 70's. We've finished in the top 40 exactly twice in 12 years, yet your husband is being paid at the 38th biggest salary in America.

We are also 42nd in rushing yards per game, and 54th in total offense.
This is an offense littered with 4 and 5 star talent - more talent on offense than 99% of college football teams.
Shouldn't we at least expect to have an offense that is in the top 15-20 in the country? We have the talent and resources, and it's not like we've played a bunch of tough defenses this year.

DJ is still winning. He is experienced. He just isn't a DW4 or TL16 which folks lose their minds over. Still, look at his biggest quality. Another kid would have thrown a tantrum (I call it A&M syndrome) about the waffling and being benched and then playing again. He is still all-in which says a lot. Even if he isn't transcendent in his play at the moment, his grit is keeping us at 9-1 right now.
Cade is still learning. We would not be 9-1 on his play alone.
Hunter is more in a player-coach role. I mean, he was playing with KB2 back in the day.

If our goal is to beat overmatched ACC teams and play for our conference championship, he's absolutely sufficient.
In that case, we don't need Cade to develop quickly. He's fine to be in for mop-up duty, and then hopefully compete for a starting job in the next year or two.
But if we want to be elite, then we aren't where we need to be in terms of QBs.
You have to admit that the excuse makers here sound a silly complaining about our QB play when we have not one, not two, but THREE 5 star QB recruits on our roster.
Most teams would kill to have one 5-star QB, and we have more than that.

TF was Rattler. Is there any chance that these kids are over-rated coming out of high school. I mean my God 5 head Bentley won the Manning Camp because he could throw a football into the back of a golf cart setting still. Some of these camp evaluations are meaningless. Stars are meaningless when your system does not fit a guys skill set.
BTW how have those 5 star d-linemen worked out for you COOT? Pickens and Burch, lazy as hayell but it doesn't make them not 5 stars.

Hunter Johnson never panned out as a 5-star, and he came back to Clemson as a grad student with a mentor type role. Wes Helms is above him on the pecking order.
Cade Klubnik is a true freshman with a bright future. He is a true freshman and has some adjusting to do.
DJ.. the coaching staff has managed his dysfunction to the tune of 19-4 over two years. We're currently 9-1, coot, and ranked 9th. Even with DJ's inconsistent performances, this staff has done an INCREDIBLE JOB figuring out a way to get 19 wins and still going for 2022.
You'd give your left ######## to be 9th.
DJ is also 1-0 against your pathetic team, and in just a couple weeks he'll be 2-0. 8 wins in a row will break our own 7 game streak, which we've now done twice.
I'll give you your coots and 27 against UT. You in?
