How ironic would it be if DJU was our first

Oct 5, 2022, 2:15 PM

Heisman winner?? I'll admit, he's a longshot at the moment, but with Bryce Young going down, and DJU's confidence going up.... who knows. He'd definitely have the story to motivate voters after his disappointing showing last year. Everybody loves a Cinderella story (is Bill Murray a Heisman voter?)! Crazier things have happened!

God works in mysterious ways. :)

If it happens anyone outside of the Clemson locker room who said they expected it would probably be lying.

It would be really cool though. I've never seen a turnaround like his, it's impressive.

Yep, DJ is certainly one of a kind.***

Our offense is not designed to be one that will brings attention to any one player. Just remember back when neither DW#4 nor TL#16 won the Heisman to realize that. As far as being ironic, for those of us that saw how DJ played with 1 or sometimes both hands tied behind his back last year his talent was never questioned.

DW4 was Heisman, but was an unfortunate victim of the votes taking placed before the season ended.

If there was a heisman moment it would have been the NCG.

That said, Lamar put up unreal numbers and carried a fairly poor team to some unreal heights. He earned it through 10 games (when most folks make up their mind). However, look at what DW4 did to close the season vs Lamar and there is a big gap. Lamar is worthy and no shame in that but DW4's highest marks came at the highest level but that was AFTER the award was given.

I thought UL lost it's 4 of it's last 5 games.

I seem to remember him beating some team which had just been formed and had only freshmen on the squad. Seems like he threw for 8 touchdowns and ran for over 100 yds and never left the game. I remember Heisman talk after that and he never lost the lead as the media's darling.

Maybe I'm wrong. Show me.

That would have been Charlotte.... then:

They put up 60+ points on then #2 Florida State (FSU finished ranked 8th fyi) and yeah, if you watched Lamar dismantle good old Jimbo's team (which we only beat by 3) then there is no doubt of Lamar's moment. Heck, you could point to their game against us that it was truly Lamar vs Clemson. Even with Charlotte, they were averaging over 60 points per game entering death valley...

Eventually, later in the season a few decent coaches figured out that you had to make Louisville beat you, not lamar. It worked

DW still should of won it over Lamar

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most Heisman voters felt like idiots after that season.

Oct 5, 2022, 3:40 PM

It was one sad choice for the award. DW was the best in the land that year and they all knew it in the end.

I don't know if ironic, is quite the right word, but I know what you mean. It would be one of the great stories in college football history. Highly touted high school QB goes to college, looks promising, falls absolutely flat, but has the love and loyalty of his coaches and teammates. Continues to work hard, a light comes on, and he sets the world on fire. I want it to be so! Go DJ, go Tigers!

He could break every record there was for a season. Never going to happen, he plays for Clemson, we just don't win the popularity contests, but we sure do win football games

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He still has a ways to go for that to happen.

Oct 5, 2022, 3:33 PM

Imo, it would take him until mid season next year for him to progress after an entire season of regression last year. He just fell off so far the climb back to how he played his freshman year seems a long way off.

Dj is managing his game well but his statistics and process are still middling by any measure...few interceptions...fumbles down but yds per completions and other statistics put him in the 30 bunch nationally,,,not Heisman numbers...he can still be a major winner...there is an ESPN announcer who was a moderate qb, good manager and won a natty with the laundry detergent school!
