QB - Georgia, based on experience only
WR - Clemson, based on experience and lost production (Pickens injury)
RB - Georgia, based on lost production
OL - Could be a toss up.

DL - To be honest don’t know where Clemson is here.
LB - Georgia
Secondary - Clemson, Georgia very talented but very young.

Special teams - Georgia is strong ... just don’t know enough.

I think this game is not only an early season premier matchup but very well could be one of the top 10 for the season.

Eyes will be watching and tickets will be out of my price range ...

You seem like you are looking for a discussion so I will give my opinion and maybe fill in a few blanks where you say you don't know enough.

QB - Clemson is more talented but you are correct in saying UGA has the slight edge in experience. My bias wants to say slight edge to Clemson because DJ's limited experience does involve a game very similar to this one, but I feel comfortable saying it's a push.

WR - Slight to Clemson if Ross is cleared and healthy. Push if Ross is out. UGA is very talented even if they are unknown.

RB - UGA and I'm not sure anyone could argue it's close. UGA knows what they have and Clemson currently just has hope and potential.

OL - I think this is the opposite of the QB position. UGA has the talent advantage and Clemson has a little more returning experience. I will accept you notion that it's a toss up.

DL - Similar to you I don't know much about my opponent in UGA. Clemson returns it's top 4 DE and it's 2 starting DT. The depth at DT is young but talented for Clemson. In August in the heat, the performance of each team's depth may determine who is stronger here. Too many unknowns to know how it will shake out now.

LB - Clemson returns almost everybody and adds a few talented pieces on top of it. I don't know much about UGA's LBs but for you to clearly thinks UGA has the advantage they must be outstanding.

DB - I expect Clemson's starting CBs to compare to the other tops in the country. The safety position brings the overall unit down to an above average unit. Improved safety play could make this a really strong back end for Clemson.

Special teams - Clemson returns a 6th year punter as well as our FG/kickoff guy with a huge leg. I'm not sure either team can count on the return game to add anything to the gameplan. Unless wind is a factor, you can expect Clemson to kick touchbacks on kickoffs and high mid-range punts that are not returnable.

On the flip side of the same question, how improved does Clemson OL have to be to make it a toss up?

My assessment on both schools is that Clemson's OL will be improved and UGA's will be a little down in game 1 due to breaking in some new starters.

I'm hoping we have improved enough to meet them in the middle for the comparison.
