I think what they’re getting at is that ESPN started things in the current direction (one that I subjectively think is bad) when they purchased the SEC as an entertainment product and began shamelessly promoting it as such at the expense of objective journalism. The ACC tried, very late, to get in on this, but got bent over backwards (or rather forwards) by ESPN, who is still laughing.
