TNET: McFadden moves to left tackle, leads youth movement along offensive line

McFadden moves to left tackle, leads youth movement along offensive line

Jordan McFadden has played both left and right tackle during his time at Clemson but started every game on the right side last season. But when offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell asked McFadden to move to the left during spring practice, McFadden was happy to oblige. Full Story »

It will be great when our OL becomes the real strength of our teams, rather than a weak link. I hope this is that year and starts a bright future when we don't have to run some trick play or a pass play when we need a yard or 2 for a first down.

No doubt OL is moving in the right direction with last year as a recent low. McFadden, even with Carman on the team, may have been our most effective o-lineman last year. I see McFadden playing in the NFL as a guard, but he can certainly be a 2021 team leader at the tackle position.

Glad to hear Rayburn has emerged at Center. Starting tackle looks solid which means starting guard positions should be a dog fight for the starting positions as the middle of Clemson’s o-line was arguably weakest positions last year. Can Tchio emerge at guard? How about Mayes or Leigh working into rotation at guard or tackle?

+1 Dugatiger.

Wouldn't it be great if we had an O-line where there could be a free rotation with backups and no drop-off in performance? I know we can get there, but it takes more focus than we have had since Danny Ford was coach. Granted, our skill guys have been great, and our defenses have been very very goo most of the time, but our OL has never made that "next step" to become highly regarded. Hope that focus changes and we are able to push people around again.

the o-line has ditched the high heels and ready to get down and get dirty. Gotta bring "nasty" every play.

with McFadden at LT and Parks at RT, our running game may get some tweaks this year. If my memory is correct, we've favored running left for a while, which I assume is because we've had a much better OT on the left side than the right side. McFadden says that Parks wants to put people in the dirt, always a good sign of a high-caliber blocker.

If Parks can run block like McFadden hints, we may be much less predictable on running downs and if we force defenses to cover both sides as strong on running downs, our odds of run success improve greatly. If they can't cover as strong on both sides, then one side or the other becomes weak and it's something we can figure out and take advantage of as a game goes along.
